- Johnny talks about the previous night's Emmy Awards, and how confusing the categories were. He then presents a variety of Carson Awards in categories that weren't included. Next, a brief sketch features Johnny in a commercial offering financial advice. Bob Speca is introduced by Johnny; he is 18 years old, and enjoys creating elaborate designs with dominoes that he then sets off to topple in a chain reaction. Johnny then reveals the design of over 7,000 dominoes that Speca has set up on the stage; the design includes Johnny's name at the center, as well as two ramps which pass over later sections of the design, and also a few criss-cross sections and multiple paths. Johnny sets off the start of the reaction, which takes about three minutes to complete. Joan Rivers comes out and discusses a variety of topics with Johnny, including air travel, baby names and raising children. Truman Capote discusses his short story "Mojave" in the new issue of Esquire, his first short fiction in many years. He talks about the fact that he has never received a rejection letter for his work, even when starting out, and recalls that when he first offered his friend Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" to his publisher Random House, they turned it down. Johnny asks if he is working on anything similar to his earlier work "In Cold Blood", and Capote says that he is following the case of a serial killer in the Midwest who murdered his first two victims with rattlesnakes - with the rattles removed for silence - placed in cars, then killed his next victims by trapping them in a burning house. Capote says the police know who the killer is and who his next targets are, but they don't have enough solid evidence to arrest him yet. Finally, Capote talks about his role in Neil Simon's upcoming comedy mystery movie "Murder by Death", which begins filming later in the year.
