complete waste of time - what was the point of that?

Warning: Spoilers
I've been hoping that, as in the first season, Wayward Pines would be full of surprises, but so far the biggest surprise is that they made an episode as bad as this one.

*****************SPOILERS BELOW****************** For some reason they brought back Pam just so they could kill her off. Her reappearance offered little new information (except that the doctor's wife may be more important than suspected, which isn't much of a surprise), and her character arc ends very oddly, as it's suggested that she *never* believed in her brother's plan, which goes against her portrayal in the first season. Her solution - kill them all - is idiotic, and she botches it because apparently even though she's got a fair amount of medical knowledge, she has no idea how long it takes small pox to become contagious.

Seriously? None of this furthers the story, and the glimpses of Jason growing up don't offer any significant character insights. The little bits of information, like the disappearance of the monsters and the stuff about the doctor's wife, uses about 1 minute of plot in an episode that otherwise lacks any story movement. And taken on its own, this individual episode just isn't very interesting.

The first two episodes of this season were okay, but didn't come close to what we got in season 1. After this terrible episode, I'm right on the edge of writing this off as a one-season wonder. Next week better be awesome, or I'm gone.

Real big lack of plot logic in this episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is by far the worst episode of the series. They have totally ruined Melissa Leo's character by giving her third personality change since the series aired. OK, first change was kind of plot wise, i mean, after the real revelation of what was going on in Wayward Pines she became normal, kind and reasonable person and not the psychotic and cold nurse she was in the first few episodes. What happened in this episode was really out of the place, and felt out of the character. Also, Hope Davis gets more irritating by each episode, and most of the main protagonist of the first season are gone - and there was no real drama about it, nor it felt like a big shock which was kind of disappointing. Only good thing in this season is the cast of Djimon Hounsou as CJ Mitchum, and I really hope he will get more screen time in the future. OK, and Jason Patric's character is kind of interesting too, but otherwise I feel like I'm going to quit watching if the series continues in this direction.

Melissa Leo is the saving grace
lor_9 June 2016
I have been a fan of Melissa's since she was a hot young starlet more than 3 decades back, and she single-handedly carried this segment. The "Island of Dr. Moreau" element of the monsters in cages was fun though it seemed like some bad/random idea thought up in the Writers' Room and injected into a series which was quite different in every way back when Matt Dillon introduced it.

The rest of the cast tries, but they simply weren't up to Melissa's standard - at any moment she seemed capable of eating them all alive (and the scenery too!). Ever since "Twin Peaks", the obvious model which this show imitates in its own inscrutable way, TV has taken a turn for the bizarre that I find alarming. It's almost like kudzu, infiltrating everything and clogging things up. That plus the endless trend toward multiple story lines (and time frames) makes me long at times for the straightforward approach of TV from the Golden Age -simpler but also more sincere. Those great shows like "The Defenders" had something to say and were never facetious.

Oh well, you can't put the genie back into the toothpaste tube.

Sad...

Warning: Spoilers
The direction the show chose to take in Season 2 is a sad end to what could have been a great show. Killing off Ben and Pam and having a 12 year old dictator makes absolutely no sense and is a good reason there was no further seasons. It has become too ridiculous to watch.
