Helen Golay, 74, and Olga Rutterschmidt, 72, killed a down-on-his-luck, temporarily homeless screenwriter, Kenneth McDavid, 50, and made the murder look like a hit-and-run in order to collect on a multi-million dollar life insurance policy. Incredibly, when police investigated the case, they found out Golay and Rutterschmidt had committed the exact same crime 6 years earlier!

Four years later, Hollywood director Nick Cassavetes made a film based on the case, Alpha Dog, with an all-star cast, including Bruce Willis, Emilie Hirsch and Justin Timberlake.

On May 4, 2001, Bonny Lee Bakely (44)-the wife of actor Robert Blake (68)-was fatally shot while sitting in Blake's parked car outside an Italian restaurant. In 2002, Blake was charged with Bakely's murder, but in March 2005, a jury found Blake not guilt. Then, seven months later, Blake was found liable in a wrongful death lawsuit brought against him by Bakely's children. Bakely's murder remains unsolved.

The Silent Movie Theatre is a beloved Hollywood institution-the only movie theater in the world devoted exclusively to silent movies. But it was also the site of a horrific murder: its owner, Laurence Austin (74) was shot in the face with a .357 at close range by Christian Rodriguez (19), a hitman hired by Austin's lover (and the theater's projectionist) James Van Sickle (34) during a screening of Austin's favorite silent movie, Sunrise.

Legendary Hollywood screenwriter Robert Lees (91) survived being blacklisted in the fifties, only to be brutally murdered in the middle of the night by a transient, homicidal maniac, Keven Lee Graff (27). Graff stabbed Lees 41 times, then removed his heart, head, and genitals. That morning, Graff took Lees' severed head to the home next door where he committed a second murder, fatally stabbing Dr. Morely Engleson (69). Graff was arrested the following day and eventually pleaded guilty to both murders although he claimed no memory of the crimes.
