Before the comedy segment, Johnny and Ed first discuss the variation in Washington's Birthday due to the shift from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1752. For the comedy segment, Johnny first reads some rules promulgated by Ayatollah Khomeini in his "LIttle Green Book". He then reads some other rules that had apparently been left out. When Patrick Duffy comes out, Johnny makes a joke about his previous show "Man from Atlantis", and Duffy talks about how it was recently purchased for broadcast in China. He then talks about "Dallas" becoming the number one show on TV. He mentions having a second child, saying that he and his wife are satisfied having two sons, and talks about filming "Dallas", and how he wishes his character had more depth. He recalls that on one occasion after his character saved four lives in one episode, he wore a Superman suit under his costume as a joke. Red Buttons tells a series of one-liners related to "The Tonight Show", including a list of famous people dating back to Confucius who never did the show. Then he talks about his film "When Time Ran Out", which cost an astonishing $23 million. He tells a story about his friend Jimmy Durante, who recently passed away. In a brief interview, Ann Reinking talks about her recent injury and the challenges of being a dancer. William F. Buckley first comes out and speaks with Johnny briefly in Spanish. He then talks about writing a spy novel, noting that it is unfashionable to present the American side as morally superior. He and Johnny then talk about President Carter's reaction to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and about the proposed Olympic boycott. Finally, asked about the presidential race, Buckley says that most predictions on that topic turn out wrong, and comments on Ted Kennedy's candidacy, but his expectation is for Reagan and Carter to be the nominees.
