Sheldon treats his laptop as having died because the screen died. In fact he could have diverted the graphic signal to an exterior monitor (and the audio signal to speakers.)
He also doesn't mention, or seem concerned about, the data on the hard drive (if he believes the laptop has died.)

The operating system that Sheldon's computer shows when it dies is Windows Vista. Mainstream support for this operating system ended April 10, 2012.
At the end of the episode, Sheldon sends Amy home so he can look at her on his new computer. However, the image he sees is from the camera on Amy's computer. Even though his video is 4k, it's the source that matters. Unless the camera on her computer is also 4k, his view is only as good as her camera.
Sheldon says to Amy that no one else knows about the storage unit. But, Amy had to drive him there, and Sheldon doesn't drive. So, it doesn't seem likely that Leonard would not know about the storage unit since he probably has had to drive Sheldon there.
