In part two, the group members wear the same wardrobe in two separate scenes. The first being the one in which they initially meet with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Ralph finds out Johnny has been added to the group. The second scene being the one in which the group records Can You Stand the Rain.
The movie has been in the works for twenty six years. The first attempt to make the movie was in 1990 and was intended to be a theater released entitled Orchard Park, with a run time of 2.5 hours.
All members of New Edition are co-producers of this biopic. They worked one on one with the actors who were portraying them extensively so that the actors could emulate their mannerisms and speaking patterns truthfully.
New Edition's songs (as well as their solo hits) were recreated for this mini-series. None of the original members' actual voices are heard of any of the songs.
One day prior to the release of this mini-series, New Edition received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, along with several recording artists such as composer Jerry Goldsmith, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Ice Cube, John Legend, N'SYNC, and Selena.
The New Edition Story broke viewing records for BET, being the most watched premiere in 5 years for 3 consecutive nights.
