Sharp Objects - Fix
Scarecrow-8830 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
And the dark descent into the abyss continues... Camille must deal with a mother who will stop at nothing to undermine her reporting/interviewing and constantly remind her of how much of a problem she is. Camille tries to get some cooperation from Detective Willis on his investigation, finally weakening his stance against revealing anything at a bar (diner talk went nowhere that morning), later actually having a rather comfortable (if fueled by alcohol) conversation outside the establishment before Amma interrupts to be insulting and obnoxious. Amma's rebellious antics are reaching Adora now thanks to the chief who caught her with teen friends rollerskating past the curfew. Amma arriving home drunk and sick to her stomach, later trying to bring up Camille's same rebellious attitude as a teenager to Adora who won't listen to it. The constant of the series up to this point is Adora's disapproval of Camille without fail. Camille can do nothing right. Interviewing the father of the first victim, Bob Nash, Camille just wants to see how he reacts to being a suspect and listening to him avert attention to the second victim's brother, John Keane (Taylor John Smith). Then bursts in Adora to shame Camille for her being there. She does learn that Adora tutored the victims and later than Amma was friends with them. So here is where you get the first real ties to Camille's family in regards to the serial murders. John's gorgeous, cheerleader girlfriend, Ashley (Madison Davenport), promises and delivers an interview with her boyfriend to Camille. It reveals a sensitive young man who has a hard time holding back tears when discussing his dead sister and how the small town accuses him without any evidence through their treatment of him. Ashley clearly holds her relationship with John important, particularly emphasizing her ability to steer him towards obedience, although his feelings about being home, the regret, give her pause...ever coming back home he regrets while her shocked expression leading to questioning why he'd say that considering they are together because of his return. Incorporated into the events of the episode are Camille's memories of a teenage "cutter" who spends time at a clinic she gets to know while also sleeping in a "cell" there. The two sharing the room, two beds and one bathroom, start off distanced but eventually are sharing their scars and listening to music together. The traumatic memory of Camille finding her dead on the floor after guzzling draining cleaner certainly only enhances Camille's mental anguish, not helped by Adora's dismissive, knife-edge remarks and Amma's targeted teenage mean girl act. So the episode doesn't exactly offer the viewer very many cheery hugs...the darkness in this series can almost envelope you if any of this material is relatable. The acting remains top-notch even as seeing Adora downgrade Camille into an alcoholic can be a bit dreary over fifty minutes. Well up until this episode that is all Adora does: Camille is a disappointment to her. Never does Adora take into account her own responsibilities for how Camille turned out and remains.

Fix Broke Somethings!

Episode Three: Fix

Instead of being unsettling by relying on the series haunting atmosphere as in the two previous episodes, in Fix Jean-Marc Vallée used some cheap techniques that are used in B horror movies; wannabe-creepy scattered editing, gore and blood, and so forth. For me, this was somewhat off-putting.

In terms of the main plot development, this episode doesn't move forward in any way. Instead, it keeps repeating some situations that seem to be manipulating rather than helpful.

Nevertheless, Fix developed the character of Camille, and moved ingeniously and skillfully to her past. Also, Camille's half-sister Amma reflected the awful state of mind of Wind Gap town adding another layer to her character.

The Dialogue between Camille and Detective Richard is unbelievably genius and very funny.

Needless to say, the Cinematography, and the soundtrack still winsomely hypnotic and numbing.

Episode 3 provides a chilling cyclical narrative
rhythmoriented23 July 2018
Not a second was wasted in this heartbreaking episode in which implications of Camille's return to her home town of Wind Gap is expanded from the two previous episodes. Significant backstory is delivered in a chilling manner. We learn much more about the cutting addiction, along with the girl in her flashbacks from the first two episodes. The performances are top-notch, with dialogue that is nothing short of what we would expect from Gillian Flynn.

Metaphorically, the circular nature of the central character's dilemma is developed visually - expanding on the previous ceiling fans, LP records which now occupy Camille's childhood home, to the roller skates of an unfettered half-sister Amma, and even glimpses of the cylindrical silos and bales of hay shown in episode 3. They now appear to represent the cyclical nature of life in Wind Gap, as she is taken through the same loop: small town cheerleaders, parking lots as venues for practicing night moves, inebriation, "tomboys" and especially compulsions - ranging from mother Adora's eyelash pulling (trichotillomania) to daughter Camille's more serious obsession of 'cutting.'

If you were professional reviewers you should get fired

Mental. Health. Takes. Time.

It. Is. Slow. Moving.

A story following it, having to dive into the ENTIRE HISTORY of an individual, will. Move. Slow. Completely fair if you're not into a character driven story like that. Maybe you wanted to keep going for 3 episodes to figure out if you could get into it. But for the love of actual film making, don't cut (ha ha) this show into pieces simply because it isn't your type of show. Please. It's not a traditional story. It's almost purely an analysis. The lack of actions you're talking about, you're not wrong! Except it's not a story about physical actions. It's all about studying these people calmly, getting under their skin, seeing the things INSIDE them. And it will be slow. That's what's necessary for this particular type of story. You don't have to like that, aaand okay that's on you. Please don't blame the story for working its way.

We're by episode three. As perfect as I personally consider this so far, there's a hell of a lot of room for failing big time yet. The show definitely has a few downsides, but honestly they're so friggin' minor I couldn't care less by now! THANK you to all who've made the art piece in these first few episodes; from someone struggling with some of the same issues as the protagonist, this was a well-placed punch in the gut. If they go down the same road as the rest of the novel did, we'll be blessed with dare I say the most real depiction of mental health, social status and the issues of a (small-town) society on TV since 13 Reasons Why season 1 (not to compare the two in any other way of course as they're entirely different). It's incredibly relatable and at the same time frighteningly different, making for an entertaining ride through the mysteries surrounding a web of lives.

Brilliant Ending
kiawnbet4 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A truly deep episode with few dialogues which makes sense beautifully for me and oh my god what an ending! What a music ! How a scene can be sooo much emotional and sad with a relief feel simultaneously from Amy Adams riding that car .

The ending scene gives me goosebumps everytime I see that and the acting of Amy admas Is noticable by the way hope to see series like this Moore The director knows how to make emotions in his audience we saw his ability in Dallas buyers club and big little lies too never seen great shots from amricas environment like how he did with his work .

Finally I think everyone should see series like this and forget action and blockbustering for a while.

In "Fix," Sharp Objects shows that it's out to understand these women while they're still alive.

While I hope the rest of the series avoids sacrificing plot for character, Fix is still an astonishingly accomplished hour that begins the show's middle stretch incredibly effectively.

Wind gap is a hellhole

Warning: Spoilers
Adora and Amma are obnoxious. The detective and Camille became friends and they might cooperate. Amma is going to a pig farm. Ann's father and Natalie's brother are the prime suspects. Camille keeps remembering that cutter girl that she stayed at the same rehab room. She killed herself by drinking bleach.

Terribly edited

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched the first 3 episodes and can not watch any more! This show should have gotten things going by now. I can't watch Amy Adams drink Vodka out of her Evian bottle and drive her car angrily around while listening to her ipod for one more second, that has been the last 3 episodes. I'll just wait for Big Little Lies season 2.

Fix - Episode 103

Warning: Spoilers
Sharp Objects? More like slow moving objects.

Okay, that horrible joke aside, this show needs to find something to keep viewers engaged. I get wanting to remain true to the novel and its pace of developing and unraveling emotions of the characters moreso than major moments like a car accident, shooting, romance or something, but for TV that does not really work.

Seeing all these familiar actors putting on bad midwestern accents doesn't help things either.

Warning: Spoilers
The backstory of Camille in suicide watch, the strongest part of the show yet, but has no bearing on the plot. The interactions in Fix are just messed up, though Amma's line's funny. You could kill me right here and Dicky wouldn't solve the case. :)
