- "State Of Consciousness," begins with Edmond (Marcus Spencer) waking up at night, fully dressed as if he was receiving a calling. He leaves the house and is instantly out for a drive. As he's driving, he gets pulled over by two (2) officers, one being a beautiful woman (Rachel Cuthbertson). When the female officer comes to the car to collect the license and registration, the scene cuts to a liquor store. Martin (Hector Gomez Jr.) walks into the store looking to get an energy drink. While in the store, a customer (Steve Georges) comes in to collect his lottery winnings. While doing so, the clerk (Ross Tissera) denies the redemption. The customer doesn't take kindly to this and decides to pull a gun on the clerk. Martin defuses the situation and the scene cuts back to the officer and Emond finishing up a kiss. It seems Edmond is allowed to drive off with no penalty.
The next morning, Mahal (Kimberly Marquez), is getting ready for her first day of work while her special-needs brother, Minco (Kyle Brody), sees her off. Mahal gets to work and Edmond shows her to her new office. Martin, her immediate boss, leads a welcome meeting for Mahal and gets her up to speed. In this welcome meeting, Rita (Deana Molle), a big client of the office, is introduced as well. Edmond does research on Mahal and discovers that her dad owns the biggest casino in California.
That evening, Edmond heads to a restaurant where he meets his wife Tonya (Kellie McElroy). Before getting to Tonya, Edmond has a conversation with Rita at the restaurant's bar. Edmond leaves Rita and sits at a table where Tonya is already waiting. After ordering the food, Edmond heads to the bathroom where he has another meeting with Rita. At the end of this meeting, Rita hands Edmond an envelope of cash. At the conclusion of the meal, Edmond finds out his credit card was declined, and he pays with money from Rita's envelope. As Tonya and Edmond are leaving the restaurant, Edmond passes the envelope to a mysterious person.
As time passes, Edmond works to get closer to Mahal but she doesn't seem to reciprocate the feelings. Edmond is looking for a cash-cow while Mahal is just looking to be great at her job. Edmond is working on a different client when a mysterious call encourages Edmond to focus all of his energy on Mahal. Edmond leaves his client and heads to Mahal. When Edmond gets to Mahal's destination, we see Mahal with Martin.
At work, Edmond sees Martin and decides to use his hypnosis powers on him. He tells Martin that Mahal is not good for him. Martin becomes very aggressive and rude to Mahal. This pleases Edmond and he decides to use his powers on Mahal against Martin. All seems well until Edmond realizes his powers didn't work on Mahal.
Mahal tells her friend, Sarah (Audrey Neal), what transpired between her and Edmond but Sarah thinks Mahal is mistaken. Mahal does research online to see if she can learn anything. Edmond then shows up at Mahal's home later that evening to explain away the hypnosis. Mahal and Minco are scared of this interaction and demand that Edmond leaves. The next morning, Mahal heads to the library to do more research. Edmond meets with a mysterious man and asks for help to get Mahal. The idea they come up with is to kidnap Mahal and bring her to the mysterious man because he is more experienced in hypnosis. Edmond hires Michael (Arizona Olave) to kidnap Mahal but Michael grabs Sarah by mistake. Edmond is displeased with the poorly executed job and demands that Michael bring back the right girl.
With the help of his girlfriend, Sonia (Isabel Lopez), they execute properly the second time around. The only problem here is Martin engages in a car chase as he sees Mahal's car but Mahal is not in the driver's seat. Michael outruns Martin and gets to the destination not knowing Martin is tracking Mahal's GPS. Michael and Sonia drop Mahal off and collect the money owed from Edmond. Mahal is left alone with Edmond but he assures Mahal that she'll be fine telling her, "it will all be over soon."
Mahal, scared for her life, sees a gun and attempts to use it to get away. When grabbing the gun, Edmond also reaches for it and they struggle to gain possession. The gun goes off and Mahal is shot dead. Edmond is confused about what just happened when in walks the mysterious character. This is the first time throughout the movie that we've seen this character's face. At this point, we realize Carl, (Sherif Awad), was behind this whole idea and find out that he was being hypnotized by Carl the whole time.
Carl sees Mahal dead and decides that he no longer needs Edmond. Carl then shoots Edmond as he pleads for his life. Carl leaves while Martin is driving to the scene. Martin rushes in and see's Mahal's car, then notices Mahal laying on the ground. He rushes to her and attempts to revive her. Carl then walks back in to offer Martin a hand. While pretending to help Martin, Carl hypnotizes him.
The scene ends with the camera back at Mahal's home. We see Minco in the doorway waiting for Mahal to return. Credits start to roll. Halfway through the credits, the picture is back up and we see the office building. We see a man walk up to the counter and we hear Carl ask the receptionist for Martin.
