Strong start but weak finish
andreaheltsleybooks7 April 2018
I read the book first and really hoped for a sequel but it never happened. So when I saw the movie I was excited and hoped we'd get the ending that was missing. Alas, while I enjoyed the movie, it ended just as abruptly as the book and I still have no clue what's happening at this point. Ultimately worth watching but be prepared to have questions about the ending.

It just seems incomplete
Fifi013118 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was amazing. The actors were perfect for the roles that they were selected for but the movie ended on a such an incomplete note. It left so many things unresolved. So many plot lines left in the wind that it completely ruined the movie for me. It would be nice for a follow up movie or even a series to be created. If not, this movie would be completely a waste of time to watch. Nothing is resolved throughout the movie.

Loved the Story, Hated the End
nannette0219 September 2017
I really liked this movie up until the very end. Just as it was getting exciting, it just ended. I was waiting for something more after the commercial break, but unfortunately all there was after that were ending credits. Please tell me it's going to be a series. We need some kind of ending!! There are so many unanswered questions. I'm not going to spoil anything so I will stop here but seriously, please, it needs a part 2 at the very least.

Beautiful cinematography and tone

Warning: Spoilers
The movie is beautifully shot on location, the cinematography is great. However, ending left everything so open ended. Possibly the worst ending ever. It'll make sense if Lifetime makes it into a series or does a sequel. Leo's character comes off as misunderstood but at the end, you're like huh? So is he a bad guy now? Need closure to the movie, otherwise all will be lost.

Worst ending ever
lillalejon24 September 2017
I do not understand this movie. How was Miranda connected to the sea walkers? Why did her mom behave to strange? Why did Leo think Miranda could save them? Why did Naomi want to hurt or kill Miranda (Leo's sister)? The last 15 minutes was a mess and the end the worst end ever without any answers at all! It was like they came short of money and never finished the movie! It started so good, excitement built up and the movie ended like a dropped egg on the floor :(

Sequels Anticipated
rexaustin-5115714 March 2020
I'm a bit surprised by the other reviews. Clearly Miranda is the hybrid child of Amelia and her father Greg, a SeaWalker. She is the bridge between the two races. She will bring the two together. What is the mystery is who controls the SeaWalker race? The sea walkers are definitely afraid of who that being is. They do not have free will. The battle is set for a new order. I'll be curious to see what the sequels provide.

I didn't understand the end of the movie
tdowdfl18 September 2017
I so did not understand this movie. How was Miranda connected to the sea walkers? What was the mom's big secret about their connection to the sea walkers? Why did Leo think Miranda could save them? Why did Naomi want to hurt or kill Miranda (Leo's sister)? The last 15 minutes just screwed me up!

Please make this into a show!! With the same actors!!

***This review may contain spoilers***

This was soooo good and had me so engaged the entire time.... Up until the very last 5 minutes... I'm sitting here so into this movie and noticing the time and that it's coming to an end but there was still a lot I was waiting for... No closure at all. Totally left me hanging.

This would be really good as a TV show and I hope they do something with it.. Reminds me of a show that would be on the CW.

I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight not knowing what happens with Miranda and Leo!!

Left Incomplete
notwentres20 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This was a truly good Lifetime movie. The cast was perfect and they had great chemistry in telling the story. However the story was left with too many questions and didn't answer the overall question or fill in the blanks and gaps. It was like false advertising. There is too much speculation for the viewer to fill in which makes me think either the book was written this way or the person who wrote the screenplay cut corners. When I looked at the synopsis of the book, it was her grandmother who passed away so I am wondering if her father actually died in the book as he did in the movie which indicated he was a seawalker which would make Maranda half seawalker. Unless the author writes another book to fill in the blanks and continue the story, I could see this as a short limited series on the CW or Freeform channel unless Lifetime decided to create another movie based off a new screenplay to explain and continue the story. Is Maranda half seawalker, did her g=father die because he was no longer swimming, why did her Mom try to kill her when she was an infant, how does the town explain the disappearance of several people, do they ever return, can Maranda be the key to save them and etc. Too many questions left to ponder...

Book of Same Name

Warning: Spoilers
I totally agree with everything that has been said. The ending of the movie totally confused me. It was her mother who saver her, right? Is she maybe half Selkie? The movie left me wanting. I just found out that this movie was made out of a book by Aimee Friedman - Sea Change. I have no idea if it might complete the story but I guess I have to get the book.

So familiar
df420531 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie seemed very familiar somehow...let's see: Young teenage girl uprooted from her everyday life and placed into a small town in the middle of nowhere, where technology seems taboo (no cell towers?) and people enjoy the good ole' slow way of life....Check! Teenage girl has to live with a family member they've had little to no contact with over the years...allowing for oh so much drama....Check! Teenage girl immediately attracts the attention of two hot guys despite having no real personality, charm, or any real redeeming qualities, one is of course hot, rich, and popular, the other his hot, working class, and an angst ridden loaner (oh whom will she choose?).....Check! Teenage girl begins to suspect there is something strange about her love interest...possibly supernatural....Check. A sudden and mysterious death bearing tell-tell signs of something unnatural lead her to explore the possibility of supernatural creatures ("We found this strange cape, and the victim was found with two puncture wounds and was drained of all their blood....we believe this to be the work of a supernatural being, most likely....a mummy") Check! Teenage girl checks the internet and immediately finds all relevant information to said supernatural beings on the first page she clicks on, complete with ye oldy looking paper (cause Wikipedia looks like that doesn't it folks?)....Check Despite every page warning of her of the extreme danger of such creatures....she immediately proceeds to confront said hot guy with her quote unquote "evidence". "You had scars, now you don't! That proves you're a supernatural creature!" Thus putting herself in danger of being killed for exposing said creature's secret (the one all those old timey pages warned you was a killer, the ones all the town folks are scared of....the ones who have possibly killed one person already?!)....Check! Teenage girl finds herself drawn ever more toward this angst driven loaner/supernatural creature/possible murderer, meanwhile other hot guy grows ever more jealous....Check. Teenage girl ignores what hot guy/supernatural creature clearly told her no less than 30 seconds ago, warning her of extreme danger and that he would most likely try to injure/kill her....but she "trusts" him...well that didn't exactly work out now did it....and you're shocked?! HE LITERALLY JUST TOLD YOU IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!! ....Check!!! Movie suddenly ends with no explanation of any of the previously set-up mysteries whatsoever....Well at least that part was different lol. So, yeah.....not really ringing any bells...so familiar......I'd bet my friends Edward, Bella, or Jacob might know. All in all, not the worst movie I've ever seen...but as others have pointed out...seems unfinished...I take it the books aren't finished either....but neither are the Game of Thrones series...it's your job as the writer and or director to figure something out....instead of just crashing into a brick wall at 90 miles an hour.

Spoiler alert
nickiajulia18 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have not read the book but after watching the movie I am looking into the book for more information. There was soooo much info left out and now I feel so lost. Was Miranda's dad her real dad? Why did her mom try to kill her? Why did her body glow and pulsate in the water? Why did Leo try to kill her or was he just taking energy from her to heal himself? What happened after he went back to sea? What's the deal with the guy who alters police reports? Soooo lost. I really hope the series continues and all the answers are reviled. Otherwise I felt it was a great story line and good acting <3

She Sleeps With the Fishes
lavatch12 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Like her namesake from Shakespeare's "The Tempest," young Miranda finds herself on a strange island with all kinds of potential for magical and supernatural occurrences. Indeed, her life is shrouded in mystery when she was apparently abandoned by her mother, Amelia. But now, her father, Greg Merchant, has died, and social services has mandated that Miranda return to the auspices of Amelia. This is the story of Miranda' return to Selkie Island.

"Sea Change" is an enormously convoluted story. It also includes a large number of unlikable characters. Even Miranda herself seems hostile to her apparently loving mother, who welcomes the reunion. At the same time, Amelia is hiding a secret from her daughter that is not revealed until the final minutes of the film.

Amelia is an artist who has captured the essence of the "Sleepwakers," creatures who appear in human form and emerge from the sea to demand human sacrifice. A painting in Amelia's home depicts the sirens seeking to attract the sailors of Odysseus. A recent casualty has occurred with the death of Kit Morgan, a skilled diver, whose death was ruled a drowning by the local Sheriff Colley.

But Kit Morgan's death was not accidental, and apparently Sheriff Colley is one of the Sleepwalkers herself. As Miranda becomes attached to the "townie" named Leo, she discovers that he has strange markings on his body that appear at night. And, underwater, he has florescent bug eyes. It turns out that Leo and his sister Naomi are Sleepwalkers. They have scored a "hit" on Kit Morgan, and they are now planning to return the depths of the sea.

Will they take Miranda along with them? Does Miranda herself possess the powers of the Sleepwalkers? It is only in the final moments of the film that it is revealed that Amelia, like Shakespeare's Prospero, is the controlling figure and guardian of her child in a dramatic rescue on Siren Beach. The infant Miranda avoided the fate a s Sleepwalker when the loving mom packed the kid off to Portland. Now, she comes to her rescue again by using her own magical powers to allow her child to remain in the human realm and avoid the fate of sleeping with the fishes.

Bummer
christybowman-6736614 August 2018
I loved the actors, I loved the story line, but the ending didn't answer any questions and left you thinking "surely that's not it." It had just started getting good and then done. From what I've read, there is not a sequel. I would not have watched this knowing it didn't have more. From what I've read about the book, same thing. I won't waist my time.

I can't wait for Part 2 because it's clearly a series.....
fireflights28 October 2017
Sea Change is based on a book and from what I know about the book, there's clearly more to tell here. They left it as a cliffhanger to keep people hanging on clearly, but it was well done, I enjoyed Emily Rudd as Miranda and I can't wait to see number 2 because it will delve more into her connection with the Seawalkers, which I believe she's part Seawalker and part human, a hybrid. I can only guess as I have yet to read the book for some understanding into her connection to the seawalkers but I also am pretty good at guessing stuff like this. For a lifetime series, I HIGHLY recommend it, it was very good and well done. Don't leave us hanging too long!!!!

Don't go in the water
nogodnomasters5 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Miranda (Emily Rudd) returns to Selkie Island, Maine where she was born. As an infant her father took her away and now she is seeing her estranged mother (Maria Dizzia) for the first time. She has a strange attraction to Siren Beach, a place where people have drown...like recently. The island is divided into two groups, the heirs, the rich people who own things and the townies who are the disrespected hired help. Miranda is an heir who sympathizes with the townies who are also the dreaded Seawalkers. The mystery is what is Miranda's role in all of this, something that doesn't give real closure.

This is moody teen girl film. There are love interests and scenes that are not very graphic.

Guide: no swearing or sex. distant night time nudity?

In Between
peacefrog-881525 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have read the book and now I have watched the movie and I feel that there was things left out and changed. The setting in the book is in the south there was fog all around the Island and she didn't meet TJ on the boat like that. She lived with her mother in the book her father wasn't dead but they were divorced. Her grandmother that she had never met was the one to die in the book. There was some things I liked in the movie and would love for them to make another unfortunately there isn't a sequel to the book it leaves you hanging.

My curiosity is on miranda connected to sea walkers
isaprado11 November 2020
It's like this movie ended with a cliffhanger. I'm curious on why miranda has an affect towards sea walkers. This movie is nice but there are some questions from some people that finish watching the movie.
