The Empress Dowager arranged a marriage between Jin Yuanbao and Ms. Jiang, one that neither wants. Yu Qiling (dressed as a man) runs into Yuanbao when trying to catch a criminal and decides to pursue the case despite his warning to stop.
Yuanbao is preparing to go ask the Empress Dowager to retract her edict but Madame Jin convinces him to get married. Qiling breaks into the inn Ms. Jiang is staying at in order complete her mission with her help.
Yuanbao gets married with Qiling (thinking its Xiaoxuan) and is drugged with an aphrodisiac by Madame Jin and her closest maid. When Yuanbao wakes up, he accuses Qiling of drugging him and sleeping with him, which she strongly denies.
Qiling, trying to find out about Yuanbao's birthmark, questions the servants in the house, scaring the servants but gaining Madame Jin's respect. Yuanbao is interrogating the thief for information on the missing girls.
Qiling confirms Yuanbao's identity and devices a plan to kidnap him and introduce him to his biological mother on their way to the Jiang family's house. Unbeknownst to her, Liu Wenzhao is also planning on ruining the trip.
Qiling and Yuanbao start their journey towards Jiang family manor but realize they are in danger and escape. Wenzhao's failure angers Lord Zhu, who amends Wenzhao's original plan.
