A decent episode, Empire certainly needs more of these to pick things up and the wheels are definitely turning.
Andre is an intelligent but also dark character. His darkness further amplified by his recent loss of a wife and child and the ongoing mental illness. So it is nice that he is behind a coup and has a number of things planned for his father. Whether he is serious about killing his father, time will tell. Things needed to be shaken up because the show was getting stagnant and no guest singers can revive it.
It was great to see Luscious weak and frail and not able to wield the power to control the board to side with him. As he lay helpless in bed Andre was able to impress everyone with his intelligence and business plans. As a character we have seen him buried whenever Luscious or another Lyon would have a moan and push him aside. It is nice to see him get a push and turn the tables on his father. We need more edgy story lines that show a powerful man not so powerful. We're starting to see that now. I'm glad things are starting to happen as I contemplated giving up on Empire altogether but will tune in next week.
