Supergirl - S02E01 The Adventures of Supergirl
j_forbesy10 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Supergirl is a show that started really slow, but by the end of the first season, I found myself completely invested into it. With that, the second season was something I was really looking forward too. With it moving to the CW and boosting the casting of Superman, it raised my excitement for this season.

I thought this episode was great. It gave us time to find our feet back into the world of Supergirl as well as bring in new plot points that we are going to play out for the rest of the season. If you have read previous reviews, you know that reintroducing us to the world and setting up plot is the two biggest things I look for in a season premiere and I thought that this episode did really well with that.

The inclusion of Superman was always going to be a massive thing and I was worried that he might steal the spot light of the episodes he is in and it would become and Superman show. In this episode, this didn't happen. While their were a few scenes that were completely centred on Superman or Clark Kent, I got to this episode still feeling as though this was Supergirl's show and Superman was indeed a side character. I also liked how they built a history around Superman in this show, making mention of previous things he had done like putting Lex Luthor into jail. That really gave me a sense that this show takes place in such a greater universe as well as in a way magnifying the fact that Superman is the leading hero in this world and Supergirl struggles with stepping out from his shadow.

I have to touch on Win because I thought he was really well handled this episode. He was always going to be the Felicity/Cisco Tech person of the team like we saw last year, but I felt as though the character they want him to be could shine more on the CW. This episode we saw a Cisco vibe to him without him being a complete replica and I really liked that. Cisco is one of my favourite Flash characters and to have a similar framework in this show is something that makes it easy to watch.

The only downside I really had with this episode was everything with Jimmy and Kara. Romance is a completely natural thing to have in a TV but it has to be handled the right way. In season one they were building to the moment they end up together and once it finally happened, it was over. I would of liked to see them have to work thing out and play a similar arc to what Barry and Patty had to play out in season 2 of the Flash.

Overall, a really good premiere episode. For me it wasn't a standout like the Flash and Arrow but it did what it needed to do to have a really successful second season.

Superman Gives the Show a Boost....For Now
ThomasDrufke10 October 2016
Putting aside all of season 1 (which I wasn't a fan of at all), I actually found myself getting excited for this season of Supergirl. The show made its way to the CW and the rest of the Arrowverse, so I think it's plausible to think that the show will be better. While the episode still has its issues, I had some fun with the premiere.

Bringing Superman into the fold was smart, but it's also very dangerous. I don't want to feel like this show needs to depend on him to hold my interest, but giving a few episodes to regain my faith was probably the best move this show could have made. Tyler Hoechlin's certainly brought a different vibe than Henry Cavill, and it fit the tone of the show. This iteration is much more in the vein of Smallville or the 90's series than it is of Man of Steel. Don't get me wrong I love that movie to death, but it's nice to see the good ol' happy-go-lucky Supes that everyone loves. What his larger role will be? I'm not entirely sure, but it's looking good.

Having Superman and Supergirl team up in the field meant amping up the action and effects, and they did just that. For what they are, the CW shows usually have some solid CG, and this episode showcased that. I really enjoyed the action and if they keep that up, I don't think this show will lose me a second time.

The show also introduced a few comic book characters, including Lena Luthor, another Kryptonian, and Metallo. I don't know how well this show will tackle Metallo, but he's a great character, especially from the animated series' back in the day. The jury is still out on him, but I'm definitely down for having Lena Luthor having a big role this season. We didn't get to see too much, but I thought Katie McGrath did a nice job of giving her character depth without giving too much away at the same time.

As for Kara's episode arc, I didn't find myself too invested. I don't care at all about James' relationship with her, or lack thereof, and I'm still not sold on bringing Cat Grant back into the fold. She wasn't as annoying as season 1 Cat, but that's not saying all that much. Hopefully the show keeps both of these plot points to a minimum. I'm far more interested in the relationship between Martian Manhunter/Superman/ and Supergirl. As for now, I'll still tune in.

+Manhunter/Supes

+Action/CG

+Batman references

+Lena

-Why are relationship issues still a focus?

-Cat was watchable

Superman comes to town are a mysterious Kryptonian ship crashes in National City
jedly11 October 2016
SUPERGIRL (2015-Present) is back and on a new network--The CW. I was happy with the idea of the move from CBS to The CW. SUPERGIRL, although it takes place in an alternate reality, the series has the same show runners as ARROW, THE FLASH, and LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. Future crossover shows are being planned.

After Kara Danvers/ Kara Zor-El/ Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter/ Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) find a downed Kryptonian craft and it's unconscious pilot, they return to the DEO (Dept of Extranormal Operations).

Meanwhile, Kara and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) have a first date, which is interrupted when a commercial spacecraft, The Venture, malfunctions. However, Supergirl isn't the only hero to the rescue. Superman/ Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) joins the rescue effort.. They soon uncover a much larger plot; one involving a never seen Lex Luthor who hires assassin, John Corbin (Frederick Schmidt), to kill his adopted sister Lena Luthor (Kate Mcgrath) who is taking over Lexcorp in the hopes of atoning for her brother's misdeeds.

This episode, aptly titled ADVENTURES OF SUPERGIRL, was nothing short of spectacular. It was about forty some odd minutes of action, adventure, comedy, and drama. Most of all it was fun. I didn't want it to end.

Have been very pleased with the acting and the chemistry emanating from this cast, specifically the relationship between Kara and her adoptive sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh). This duo has very strong on screen chemistry that I find very appealing. After a strong plot line, I love seeing actors that just have this incredibly strong bond on screen. It almost feels like Benoist and Leigh have known each other for years.

I also love the evolution of the relationship between Kara and her boss, Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). Flockhart expertly totes the line between THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and the pushy "big sister" who really does want nothing but the best for her younger counterpart, and will continue to push her to success. Since the show has moved filming from LA to Vancouver, Flockhart will now only be a recurring cast member, which is a bit of a shame.

As stated, Superman has a guest starring role in this week's (and next) episode. A few months ago, The CW released a poster of Supergirl and Superman. Hoechlin didn't look all that bad. I liked it. What really got my attention, though was the two minute clip of them in action.

Tyler Hoechlin doesn't disappoint. He actually seems to channel both Dean Cain and Christopher Reeve. This version of Superman is approachable, kind, and even cracks a few small jokes. At one point, Clark and Kara are in the elevator with a another female occupant, and Clark has an accidental clumsy mishap. Later, Kara notes that Clark really has the act down. He responds by saying that he had meant to do that.

This was a terrific second season premiere, and the best episode since The Flash came to town. It's everything a primetime superhero show should be, and I'm very much looking forward to the next episode.

Good start for CW's Supergirl
scarlettyforest10 October 2016
Supergirl's season two premiere and introduction to Superman started and ended with a bang, with the introduction of Lena Luthor, Metallo and Mon-El to top it all off. Tyler Hoechlin's Superman was great, and I think fans of Christopher Reeves's portrayal of Superman will be pleased. By far the greatest aspect of this episode were the fun moments between Clark and Kara, and seeing National city's response to Superman, although I'm a little uneasy with any iteration of Superman not being friends with J'onn J'onzz.

On a more critical note, I've always had a problem with Supergirl's inability to take itself seriously in terms of writing and direction. I know that when you're working on a network series its not easy to pull off the sophistication of a cable series, but following the Arrow season five premiere's efforts to amp up it's action with long take sequences etc, we know its possible. This episode's lead up to Metallo and Mon-El holds promise that we're in for a much better and tighter story line than season one, but I really hope that the writers give the repetitive Jimmy / Kara drama a rest.

This Episode Is Why I Started Watching The Show
sexystarwarslover3 January 2018
When I found out that two of my favourite actors - Tyler Hoechlin {from Teen Wolf} and Katie McGrath {from Merlin} were joining this show, I was like I must get into this show so I was ready for the season and last night I finally watched the season 2 opener and I was very impressed with how easy Tyler and Katie blended into the cast as Superman and Lena Luthor and I'm already keen for more of them. I even liked the little flirty Lena was doing with Clark in her office and Tyler and Katie looked very cute. The episode captured my attention right from the beginning picking up where the S1 finale left off and when Clark appeared on screen I was hooked even more. This version of Superman is my favourite and I'm not much into the DC universe but already he's my favourite and Clark and Kara, I'm keen for more family scenes because as he told her he'd like to know more stories of Krypton. The last five episodes of S1 were my favourites and now this one is added to the list as an awesome season opener and I'm ready for more.

Looks Like Hope Once More...
lghedges10 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Before I begin. I dislike Supergirl. Yes I know, "give it a chance! It is really good trust me" But honestly I can pass on her. It is just the character I do not like. However today, I actually prepared myself and watched this season's premier. I am a massive Superman fan. Honestly him and Flash are my favourite two heroes. And seriously… it is very hard to impress me with these 'Super TV Shows'.

But today… I believe I most certainly just witnessed one of the best Superman actors I have ever seen. He portrays the best Clark Kent. I'm sad to say that I prefer him over Henry Cavil. All I ask is for you people to give Toby a chance. I really think he is one of the best Superman actors in this era. I really do. He was so quirky and goofy and just good old clumsy. The humour was great and seeing brother and sister side by side saving the world… it is a real treat.

This episode actually made me smile on numerous occasions. The story was good, the character dramas were all on point. Only one issue, the story didn't really carry on with the fallen pod issue. But never the less, it still was worth a watch.

So in conclusion,

Even if you do not like this show. I recommend that you watch this episode. Any fan of Superman, I promise this will not disappoint! Superman and Supergirl together, brings us hope once more. And yes… pun intended!

And here is Superman ..
CastleofGlass19876 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So the first episode of season two hits off with a strong start with the intoduction of superman and the character of Lena Luthor, let hope it gets better and better. I had to say i wasnt upset to see the end of the kara/Jimmy relationship which i found lacked chemistry, in my opinion it was a good decision by the writers , but after a first season of will they wont they it does seem like a wasted storyline for it to suddely become oh lets be friends after Kara was so happy in the final episode of season 2. Alex back to the badass she is was good to see and the introduction of Metallo makes for a exciting end to the episode. Kara now following in her cousins reporter footsteps felt predictable. All in all 8/10 look forward to see what this series brings.

Do better Writers!
marviex314 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The writers of this show keep letting down Supergirl the extensive cast of this wonderful show, Season one was great up until the complete lack plot in the holes they dug up season finally, which had me skeptical. 1. why is a certain someone making the inorganic and forced introduction to super-girl. 2. Why is the romantic sub- plot of last season dead, like the writers felt they had to strangle that romantic puppy with the bare hand as to fell the creatures like go out of it's body for some sick till. I hated there relationship two, but Kara if she were real wouldn't be sold completely on James one day and the next season pretend she doesn't have any feeling. What i'm talking about is the missing episode of super girl between season 1 and 2 that has super-girl having a fast as the flash adventure where she goes soul searching to get lost and comes back at the exact moment in season 1 finally that is the season 2 beginning. There is no chemistry anymore? Wrong the hole have finally swallowed the plot and now we are just waiting for the end to come as this black hole swallows us too
