Cutting a wire (on the bomb) does NOT "complete" an electrical circuit. That is impossible.
With the air evacuated from the room the yells of the people inside would be inaudible. Sound doesn't travel in a vacuum. Additionally, when Tom opens the door there would be a rush of air to fill the vacuum but there is no disturbance of his hair or clothing or any items in the room like the loose paper map he was after.
When Tom first arrives at New York City and the payphone starts ringing, the payphone goes back and forth from not having and then having and then not having a sticker on the left that says, "DIAL *22 for COLLECT CALLS".
