During an argument with Barba about pursuing the rape case, Benson says "we don't get to invent our victims". This mirrors Don Cragen's line "We don't get to pick the vic" in the series premiere.
This is the first episode in which Rick Eid serves as executive producer/showrunner, replacing Warren Leight, who departed after Season 17.
There are a few mentions to the events of the previous episode, Heartfelt Passages (2016):
- An newspaper image of Mike Dodds, who died in that episode, is seen in the trash by Benson. A memorial photo is also shown in the SVU precinct.
- Olivia Benson plays airplane with Noah in the park and reminds him of the plane they took to Paris, indicating they took the trip that Ed Tucker suggested at the end of that episode.
- When Benson and Chief Dodds are discussing Ana's situation in Barba's office, Dodds yells at her by saying that Benson doing her job cost his son's life, a comment that he appears to immediately regret.
