Interesting dialogues, chemistry
flashlightreview12 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie reminded me a little bit of "Before Sunrise", "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight". Two people, just walking, talking and showcasing the chemistry, dynamic and feelings between them.

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are on a different planet, even an entirely universe compared to the lead characters here. But the concept is somewhat comparable.

The two leads use to go out together and broke up a while ago. Even though they go to the same school, they don't really run in the same circles. This movie is one big date and summarizes the past, present and future for this couple.

On paper this looks like a long, boring movie - but the leads make it work. It feels like you are with them. It will remind you of the long walks with the relationships we had.

Lacks an objective eye and drags drags drags
cruzarts-7394615 November 2020
Connor Keesling wrote, directs and stars in this two-person opus that drags on for 2-1/2 hours.

The story takes place over one evening, is very talky and reveals two very unremarkable characters. Keesling isn't equipped with the self-awareness to draw a performance from himself that a director might have.

Keesling's vocal delivery is mumbling, nasal and whining. Julia Dent, Keesling's co-star, is likely unremarkable. As presented in this film, she would be difficult to describe in a way that someone would be able to find her in a lunchtime restaurant dining room. They're both studies in plainness.

Both keesling and Dent have several short film credits, which begs the issue of why this film runs so long and lacks any sense of economy or strategic editing.

It's a remarkable flexion of ego on Keesling's part to subject viewers to a project for which he is totally responsible, from concept to execution. He doesn't risk anything in this film, but he indulges himself to what seems like a rude degree.

Hardest to get through

These kind of talking movie is alright for me but the pre-requisite is with beautiful scene or happen like a road trip somewhere in Europe. If not, the actor actress must be very attractive to me. If not, there must have something outbreak content, secret disclosure etc. This movie just two teen conservation and unable to make me stay focus. The content just teen talks. Wrong target group this movie to me.

When the long and hot summernight horns a teenage heart and the sensuality of adrenaline is on overdrive in the company of a beautiful friend. its a petty that julia has a dent in her name, because shes a dentless as could be.

but its too deep and 1 hour too long for the grumpy old man

A Raw, Real Experience
d_a_freeman7 October 2020
One Summer Night is a film that really got me thinking about my formative years and how they've shaped who I am. It's something that anybody can relate to - the experience of fearing the future and wanting to so badly cling to what you're familiar with.

Don't let the fact that it is low budget stop you from enjoying the story. In fact, I find the indie film quality to be charming and the film feels more realistic as a result. If you like the Before trilogy, One Summer Night is certain to provide a similar atmosphere.

Conner Keesling and Julia Dent have an undeniable chemistry that sucks you into the story immediately. The raw honesty between their characters is something to be admired. Stories can feel so synthetic and generalized, but you can tell this story finds a way to be so personalized, and has no gripes with addressing the array of emotions that cloud the mind when discussing the past and determining the future.

For a debut film, this is a remarkable feat for Conner Keesling. It's not perfect, but to me the imperfections make it feel unique. I think all filmmakers have issues when it comes to making their first film, and the fact that this group was in their early 20's is incredible. The end product is something to be admired, and you can't deny that the content overshadows any minor technical issues.

This film was made from the heart and it really shows. Don't let the runtime scare you away, because if you immerse yourself in the story, the time doesn't pale in comparison to how special this experience is. The film leaves you flooded with thoughts of your own experiences in relation to the characters, and takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. It may not be the "feel good" flick of the year, but it is real and raw, and leaves you in a state of reflection. Hats off to the cast and crew, I savored every minute.

Must Watch Coming-of-Age Film
GeorgianaJersey16 October 2020
I loved this movie and can't wait to recommend it to all my friends. The screenplay was well written and the actors did an excellent job portraying high school graduates as they discuss their feelings in the wake of leaving for college. The cinematography and the settings throughout the film were so beautiful. This is a must watch film.

Beautiful.

I had the pleasure of working with Conner Keesling on this film so I may be a little biased. But what drew me to the project is that the script is so relatable. Not just as a coming-of-age recent high school grad but also managing my fears and challenges of dealing with my past relationships and experiences. As an outsider looking in, I am still a huge fan of the work and would be regardless of if I was involved or not.

One Summer Night is a beautifully character-driven story that deals with many not-so talked about themes in daily life. Although the style might not be for everyone, it is certainly a remarkable experience that will stick with you for weeks if given the chance.

Keesling and Dent did a wonderful job bringing out these real, complex characters. Their performances complimented each other and it was truly a pleasure to watch them work and capture their magic.

If you could, please give the film a watch and let us know what you think!

Shades of gray
imdb-7487215 December 2022
Was it the Tom Cruise - "Risky Business" / Dustin Hoffman "The Graduate" sunglasses gimmick? Was it the chance meeting? Was it the slow pleasant walk through an idyllic neighborhood? Was it the simple dialogue? Was it the naivete of youth facing what for them was a life changing time? Was it the nostalgia of simpler times and opportunities missed? Was it the possibility of second chances? Was it the reflection of my own youth? Or was it some other intangible that haunts me?

This sleeper of a movie should be seen. The shades of gray will be colored by the memories and personality of the viewer.
