Luther's Reformation and its Effect on Ordinary Germans
jimmun-701742 March 2022
Luther and I (aka Katharena Luther) is a very good movie with an undeservedly low rating of 6.3 (IMDB). This is a German film made in celebration of Luther's Reformation. It tells the story of Luther's Reformation and its consequences for Germany through the eyes of Katarina von Bora, the former nun who became Luther's wife. Unlike other dramas about this period which focus on Luther's dealings with nobility and church hierarchy, this movie describes the Reformation as it affected ordinary people. .

Getting new perspectives about this time, about Katharina and Martin Luther
rfust18 November 2023
Although this is a TV movie, I think the movie tends to be underrated by critics. Through the perspective of Katharina Luther and the story setting, the viewer can discover completely new facets of this time. As the focus is on Katharina, this also gives a new perspective on Martin Luther. There is always a danger with a hero of faith like Luther that you only see the highs. The consequences for Katharina of marrying Martin Luther are shown very well. The inner struggles and challenges in such a marriage are also shown in a true-to-life way. This brings us closer to Katharina, but also to Martin Luther. We can get a better idea of the challenges and fears they and society were exposed to.
