Tiempo de Luvia: A Mother's Tale
babyjaguar8 January 2021
"Tiempo de Lluvia (In Times of Rain)" (2018) directed and written by Itandehui Jansen (and written by Armando Bautista Garcia). It explores the life of an indigenous family, demonstrating the "economic migration between rural and urban Mexico, and the bonds of love, family and culture" (as described recently in a film festival synopsis).

Jansen's beautifully-shot film with locations in Oaxaca and the urban areas of Mexico City. This narrative follows an indigenous folk healer or "curandera", Soledad (powerfully helmed by Ángeles Cruz) in rural Oaxaca with her young daughter, Adela (Angelica Herrera) in Mexico City.

Adela as a single mother tries to make ends meet to bring her only son, Jose to the city for better life opportunities.

This film has been presented in other film festivals such as the Guanajuato International Film Festival 2018, the Seattle Latino Film Festival and the Imagine Native Film + Media Arts Festival. The film's cast member Cruz has acted alongside the cast with Mel Gibson in the 2012 Hollywood film, "Get the Gringo" and view the trailer for "Tiempo de Lluvia (In Times of Rain)" below
