- Clinic Doctor: [as Lola prepares to undergo an abortion] Anything you want to ask before we start?
- Lola Pacini: [inhales deeply] Am I the first 16-year-old you've ever done this to?
- Clinic Doctor: You're not the first today.
- Maya Matlin: [to Grace and Jonah] Good news. I'm in. I can help with the play. Lights, music, whatever you need.
- Grace Cardinal: We need people we can trust.
- Jonah Haak: Yeah. Did you tell Simpson that our play was about suicide?
- Maya Matlin: Oh. Uh, yeah, maybe.
- Grace Cardinal: Well, now he's reviewing it.
- [scoffs]
- Grace Cardinal: What's wrong with you? You ditch me for some messed-up art project and now you're trying to tank our play?
- Maya Matlin: I don't...
- Grace Cardinal: Don't what?
- Maya Matlin: I don't know. It's just been hard lately.
- Grace Cardinal: [scoffs] Your life is hard?
- Jonah Haak: Grace...
- Grace Cardinal: You know what's hard? Finding out that you're gonna need a lung transplant before you graduate. That's hard.
- Maya Matlin: Grace, I had no idea.
- Grace Cardinal: Because you're a terrible friend.
- Maya Matlin: Tell me what I can do to fix it.
- Grace Cardinal: [scoffs] Nothing. I just... I just don't want you in my life anymore.
- Yael Baron: [to Lola] Our presentation is tomorrow. God, you are so irresponsible!
- Lola Pacini: Chill! It's just a stupid project.
- Yael Baron: It's worth 50% of our grade. What could be more important than that?
- Lola Pacini: [near tears] I'm getting an abortion.
- [Yael looks shocked; Lola sniffles]
- Lola Pacini: Maybe I can get a doctor's note or something, but I'll make sure you don't lose marks for my stupid mistake.
- Yael Baron: Do you have somebody to go with you?
- [Lola shakes her head no]
- Yael Baron: Then let's call an Uber.
- Yael Baron: [to Lola] The car will be here in a minute.
- Lola Pacini: You know, I didn't just decide to get an abortion.
- Yael Baron: Okay.
- Lola Pacini: I've thought about it. A lot. And I spent hours researching it online.
- Yael Baron: Did you talk to your parents? Parent.
- Lola Pacini: Mom's gone-zo.
- [chuckles]
- Lola Pacini: My dad's great, but super traditional. Besides, there's nothing to talk about. I'm not ready to be a mom and there's no way I'm walking around school pregnant for nine months.
- Yael Baron: But you you only found out you were pregnant yesterday, right? I mean, that still gives you time to change your mind.
- Lola Pacini: I decided two weeks ago when I thought I might be pregnant.
- [sighs]
- Lola Pacini: What would you do?
- Yael Baron: I don't think it really matters right now.
- Lola Pacini: I just want this to be over with so that I can get on with my life.
- Yael Baron: [sighs] Well, then, maybe there's your answer.
- Frankie Hollingsworth: [to Lola as she's hiding in a bathroom stall] We've been looking everywhere for you.
- Lola Pacini: Does that means everyone's talking about me?
- Shay Powers: I wouldn't say everyone.
- [sighs]
- Shay Powers: Don't worry. We'll tell them it's not true.
- Frankie Hollingsworth: And even if they don't believe us, we know it's not. You had a pregnancy scare and you wanted to know your options. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
- Shay Powers: Yeah, it's not like you actually had an abortion.
- Lola Pacini: [sighs] And that would be a reason to be ashamed?
- Frankie Hollingsworth: No, but abortion's a big deal. I mean, you're kinda killing a baby.
- Shay Powers: Well, I think, technically, it's an embryo.
- Frankie Hollingsworth: Why are you getting so upset? We're trying to be supportive.
- Lola Pacini: Well, it sure doesn't feel that way.
- [storms out of the bathroom]
- Lola Pacini: [to Yael] Do you think I'm a bad person?
- Yael Baron: Because you made a difficult decision?
- Lola Pacini: It wasn't difficult for me. Scary, yeah, but...
- [inhales sharply]
- Lola Pacini: not difficult. And afterwards, I... I didn't feel sad.
- Yael Baron: Well, I mean, that's good, isn't it?
- Lola Pacini: Except now I feel bad for not feeling sad.
- [holds up her phone]
- Lola Pacini: I've been staring at this photo all afternoon.
- [sighs]
- Lola Pacini: I feel nothing except the desire to tweeze her unibrow.
- Yael Baron: Well, doesn't that mean you just made the right choice?
- Lola Pacini: [sighs] Frankie and Shay don't agree. They think I'm a murderer.
- Yael Baron: They said that?
- Lola Pacini: I can barely handle my roots. How could I possibly handle a baby?
- Yael Baron: A lot of women would support you. I mean, Nicki Minaj had an abortion in high school.
- Lola Pacini: Really?
- Yael Baron: The point is, a lot of women have abortions and feel no shame.
- Lola Pacini: I feel like I'm the first.
- Yael Baron: Yeah, because the world makes everybody too scared to talk about it.
- Lola Pacini: Well, they should talk about it.
- Yael Baron: Maybe you could.
- Margaret Matlin: You're skipping school again? What the hell, Maya? Is this you trying harder?
- Maya Matlin: I can't do it anymore.
- Margaret Matlin: Do what?
- Maya Matlin: Anything! I know you want the old Maya back, but I can't find her. I don't think she's there anymore. I tried! I really tried.
- [voice breaking]
- Maya Matlin: There is something seriously wrong with me and I need help.
- [sniffles]
- Margaret Matlin: Okay. I'll call your old doctor.
- Maya Matlin: I'm really scared, Mom.
- [crying]
- Maya Matlin: I'm I'm really scared.
- Margaret Matlin: [while comforting Maya] It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. Whatever it is, we'll get through it together, okay? Okay. It's okay, baby. It's okay, baby.
- Lola Pacini: [in her vlog post talking about her abortion] There's so many things I wanna do in high school and being a mom is not one of them. It might not be everyone's choice, but it was mine and I'm not ashamed.
