A Different King of Film
I, Dolemite Part III: Petey Wheatstraw (2016)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Here's the third of a four-part series that takes a look at the films of Rudy Ray Moore. This one here focuses in on PETEY WHEATSTRAW as we get an archival interview with Moore who talks about where the name comes from. Also interviewed are Jack Tucker, Nicholas von Sternberg, Jimmy Lynch and the director's son's Bryan and Rokki Roquemore. If you're a fan of the film, the star or the director then you'll certainly enjoy this 18-minute featurette that once again does a great job talking about the production and eventual release of the picture. The best moments come from the director's kids who discuss what it was like working on the film, what it was like seeing it on the big screen and their emotional tribute to their father. Moore biographer Mark Jason Murray is also on hand to discuss some more details about the production including the change in nature as far as the story went.
