Put another shrimp on the barby

Warning: Spoilers
Having just watched the first two hour episode in this miniseries, I'm looking forward to the next.

I'm not sure how accurate the movie is in detail, but overall it paints a great picture of Paul Hogan's rise to fame and the strain it takes on his marriage. Poor Noelene!

Unlike Graham Kennedy's biopic, The King, which was light on detail and seemed rushed, Hoges takes its time to tell the whole story, and not be squeezed into a two hour movie.

Hoges has the right actors for the right characters, has a really good pace and is very entertaining.

Good on yer Hoges!

Pretty good

Warning: Spoilers
As an Australian, I found the first half of this mini-series to be better than the second. The incredible rise of the cheeky suburban Sydney tradesman and father of five to TV comedian, then Hollywood movie star, is wonderfully told. Paul Hogan is a very unusual person - naive yet cunning, unassuming yet sharply intelligent. Laidback yet ambitious. Anarchic but honest. The second half - when he's very rich and has a string of failed movies and leaves wife Noelene to marry

Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski - is not as interesting. But the second half is fair to everyone involved. Linda and Paul are not portrayed as the devil, and Noelene is not a pathetic loser. But there are just too many soppy scenes - hugs and meaningful speeches - towards the end. You've got to praise Josh Lawson for having a massive go at portraying an Aussie hero. He doesn't look completely like Hogan, but who does? Lawson is good at playing the smart larrikin. I learned a few new things about Hogan, for example how he tried to save suicidal people jumping off Sydney Harbour Bridge when he worked there as a rigger. Hogan is quite unemotional, and admits he's more a comedian than an actor. So he was offered dramatic roles like the lead in Ghost. But he knew that wasn't him, and turned it down. The ending is a bit schmaltzy. But overall, it was a nice program.

Rush rush, miss miss

Okay the hair was my only problem with Hoges. Lawson's acting wasn't. It was a tremendous feat. It's almost an enigma how he, and other actors have copped it. The story loosely covers how this Sydney Bridge rigger, became an overnight success and was responsible for the highest grossing Oz movie of all time. Corr, an actor that just gets better, I really liked as Hoges sidekick, and best buddy, John Cornell, where the actress who plays Delvene Delaney here, is hotter than DD herself. She too does it solid. I had problems with Laura Gordan, not her performance, but her look for the role, even the re enacting, New York knife scene from CD shows her with real short hair. I loved uncredited, Grant Piro's Dustin Hoffman, portrayal, despite other opinion. But I really liked Justine Clarke the best, as Hoges's long suffering wife. She totally got under her skin, and it's a brave piece of tour de force, and the best stiff, I've seen from her. She's the best and real acting force/drive in this, Lawson running close second. This is frickin' Roo from Home And Away, the little lass from Professor Poopsnaggle. Look how far she's come? Yes, there were other bigger problems here too. I for one, thought this would of been much better covered, over a few more weeks. Just imagine how much more could of been poured in here. E.g. We could of spent much more time focusing on the battles of writing and getting that great blockbuster, up on the big screen, even more BTS filming of CD. Also much more focus on Croc 2, where Paul's son co wrote it with him, and the conflict that would of developed, between the two, during the writing of that. And when we were spun through the nineties. What about the Croc 3 failing, and more importantly, Hoges's problems with those bloody tax people, but "No" none of that. This was really messy time coverage, fast forwarding us, as though we've been put through a washing machine. And what about Lightning Jack? But "No". Even the start was rushed with the younger actors, who were wonderfully cute, and delivered in their short and unfair screen time, that makes you wanna throw a mower through the screen. This story should of been told over ten week hourly episodes + it's two first night premiere. This is why this really suffered, although what's transpired instead is good enough to get to know that lovable larrikin, by being like he is, purely entertaining, so it still comes out winning, or for Hoges, with the tax department, grinning. May'be they'll be another series that will sheerly focus on how Crocodile Dundee, made millions and then some.

Paul Hogan is definitely "Mr. Charisma"...but Josh Lawson's awful wig looked like he was wearing a cat on his head

This biography was excellent. I learned a lot about actor Paul Hogan's early life and how his natural wit and charm made him a fan favorite not just in Australia, but world wide. Although the film did not expose what his relationship was with his five (5) children with his first wife as they grew into adulthood, it did show that Paul Hogan, the actor, man, husband and father loved his family even after he became a world wide star.

I thought that actress Justine Clarke was perfectly cast as Noelene Hogan, Paul's wife. Her smile on screen was infectious and her deep love for her husband Paul was evident throughout the film. It was not very nice that Paul Hogan decided to leave a 30 year marriage for his much younger co-star Linda Kozlowski, but the way that both Paul and Noelene handled the situation was mature and must have made their adult children's transition into accepting Linda Kozlowski as their stepmother a lot less awkward.

Paul Hogan's natural charm and wit shone through every scene as his career gradually accelerated in his home country of Australia through the early years and into stardom with the world release of Crocodile Dundee. I assume the portrayal of Paul Hogan as a man being grounded even after realizing his international fame was real and that is why to this day he is still loved and respected by his countryman.

Josh Lawson did an excellent job portraying the charismatic Paul Hogan and after the first 30 minutes I believed I was watching and listening to the real Paul Hogan. The only negative thing I can say about this biography is that actor Josh Lawson's blonde wig was so ridiculous and fake that I kept looking at that mop that sat on the top of his head and I half expected it to move as if it were a cat sitting on top of his head.

I give the film an excellent 9 out of 10 rating
