... dig a hole? For ten minutes? What was the purpose of watching them dig that hole?

If the setup for the final scene was done better...

Warning: Spoilers
That's some Breaking-Bad-level twist right there in the final moments. If only the setup for that twist was done better...

The final scene has some creepy Breaking Bad vibes and parallels. I'm referring to Dead Freight episode of season 5. In Dead Fright, the whole episode was a heist. In Amber Waves, the heist is introduced only near the end. In Dead Freight, someone is killed in the last seconds. That happens also in Amber Waves. In Dead Freight, that person was a kid. Here, that person is a young man with whom the main characters and the audience are very familiar.

Even if that final scene was introduced out of the blue, I enjoyed it, but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if that moment was build better...

Still an overall good episode that serves as a build up for the entire season.

A great start to season 5

Warning: Spoilers
Phil and Elizabeth are required to do double duty. On one assignment they pretend to be an airline pilot and stewardess working for an airline and they have adopted a Vietnamse boy who is of high school age whio befriends another Russian high school boy all in an effort to get close to a Russian scientist so that they can figure out what he is doing for the Americans. On another assignment they are assisted by Hans and some other comrades to dig up the spy/scientist William's grave to cut off a piece of his flesh to acquire a sample of the level 4 bi-hazard chemical that he infected himself with to avoid being imprisoned as a Russian spy.

Paige and Matthew's friendship is becoming a lot more serious than just friends and it is creating turmoil with her parents. This is an interesting first episode for season 5 and impressed both Mrs. Shullivan and myself such that we continued watching a few more episodes before calling it "enough" and time to unwind before hitting the sack. A great start for season 5!

Good start to the series

The Jennings are assigned to help complete William's final mission.

This is a strong episode that sets the scene for series 5.

The plot focuses on characters and missions, with the biggest intrigue for me being on a fairly new character who starts out on what looks to be a very compelling journey.

I loved the early musical montages, especially the sequences that focus on crop harvesting. Most scenes are character focussed until the final one which, despite being well made, for me drags on a bit too long.

All cinematography, editing and use of music is very strong, whilst performances are as excellent as ever, particularly Holly Taylor, who's character I have much sympathy for.

In the middle ages they burned the bodies of plague victims.

In the 1980s apparently the US government had better ideas. Also, that hole? Impossible to dig and fill in one night without digging equipment.

Season 5 is losing steam!
mm-3914 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Season 5 is losing steam! Paige is having problem with mom wacking the homeless/rapist. There is more internal conflict for Paige. Liz teaches Paige self defense. Paige is having miss givings about Stan's son. Stan may have a new girl friend? Is the girl friend a K G B agent or not? Well directed, and acted. But thin on story. Season 5 is losing steam of the first four years. Too bogged down in laborious side stories. I know Amber Waves is a slow build up for a new main story, but too slow. 4 out of 10
