Fun Homage to Castle
Michael_Elliott5 June 2016
William Castle, Hollywood Barnum (1987)

*** (out of 4)

Fred Olen Ray, Jerry Neely (Jerry's Video Reruns) and George Kuchar are interviewed for this twelve minute documentary that pays homage to the madness of director William Castle. Basically the three gentlemen talk about what it was like to see a Castle film in the theater with the various gimmicks.

There's certainly nothing ground-breaking about this documentary but it's certainly nice getting to hear from people who were there when these films were originally being shown. All of them tell some pretty amusing stories dealing with the various gimmicks that Castle would use to sell his movies. This includes the skeleton in HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, the creature from THE TINGLER and of course the ghost viewer in 13 GHOSTS. Fans of Castle should enjoy hearing these stories from first-hand accounts.
