- Matt offers to step down as Dan's doctor since Dan considers him an enemy, but Dan counters that he wants Matt, who's the best. When Dan asks to see Carolee, Matt reassures him that she's fine, but Dan presses for a visit. Mike goes to see Toni on his break, and she finally confesses that Dan deemed her mother a tramp and suggested that she'll turn out just like her. Mike insists that tomorrow morning they'll confront Dan and demand that he prove his claims. Emma tells Maggie that Mrs. Reynolds, the Allison family housekeeper, is looking after Billy, who doesn't know about Dan's hospitalization. Matt reports to Carolee that Dan wants to see her, adding that they need to abide by his wishes because they can't risk upsetting him in his current condition. Carolee admits to Matt and Maggie that Dan told her she'd have to pay for the misery she caused him, but Matt counters that Dan brought it all on himself. Dr. Spencer phones from New York and informs Matt that he forwarded Dan's medical records to Dan personally. Based on memory, he reveals that Dan was diagnosed with a diffuse heart defect, meaning that Dan isn't a candidate for bypass surgery. Alone in his hospital room, Dan thinks to himself that he didn't tell Carolee he was ill because he knew she'd provoke him into having a heart attack. Although she succeeded in causing him harm, he managed to survive, and soon as she agrees to visit him, she's going to find out that it's made him stronger than ever.—Skip Eastport
