The adventures of Master Legend Warning: Spoilers
"The Legend of Master Legend" is a 27-minute live action short film from this year (2017) and I believe looking at the concept and the people working on this one (some pretty big names), I would not be surprised at all if this pilot episode gets picked up for an entire series of several seasons even perhaps. The director is James Ponsoldt, a still relatively young American filmmaker who has made quite some waves in recent years. Lead actor is John Hawkes and he is an Oscar nominee which already says a lot about his talent and here it is all true. No idea though why he isn't first-cast because he is the one in the center of it all playing the title character. The writers come from "Transparent" and the original article this is based on is by the same writer who also got Best Picture Oscar winner Argo rolling. Like I said, lots of quality united here and I'd be shocked if this doesn't get picked up. Anyway, I usually don't review series, so lets give it a go as long as it is just one episode.

We follow a man here who poses as a superhero in something that looks like a poor man's version of an outfit that is a mix of knight and metallic superhero. But nobody really takes him seriously, not the guys who he sees as the villains nor the police really. They all think he is very much on the pathetic confused side really. So it is a touch of an old man's version of Kick-Ass. The dramatic weight is brought in by the relationships between the man and his family and (not too many) friends. Thinking about it, this is perhaps more of a drama than a comedy, especially with the tragic music playing every 60 seconds or so. But there are still some funny moments, like when the cop tries the glove and somehow feels like a superhero as well for a moment. As a whole, you can definitely see that the ones who wrote it worked on "Transparent" as the approach is somewhat similar. I am not a huge fan of "Transparent" and after seeing season 1, i would definitely call it overrated, but this one we have here I enjoyed. I hope it gets a better first season. The talent is definitely there, not just in Hawkes. If Amazon decides to pick it up because enough people enjoyed it, then I will most likely check it out at some point.

Loved it

Totally original, quirky, funny, at times absurd offbeat comedy. John Hawkes is thoroughly committed and lovable in this role. The rest of the cast was equally offbeat. It left me wanting to see more of this world! Lovable losers, winning at life. Hoping this series continues! More Master Legend!

Quirky and Inspiring: A Fun Twist on Superhero Shows

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was awesome! Watching this unique do-gooder struggle to be a hero in a world that misunderstands real superheroes -- it's quirky, heartwarming, funny, and inspiring! It's got me feeling re-invigorated in my work as a non-profit organizer. I got teary-eyed from the first scene, because that's really what it's like trying to make the world a better place. You win some; lose some, but you do make a difference. Awesome job, Master Legend!
