- Dan struggles to reach the monitor alarm but ultimately manages to switch it off. In the car on the way home to celebrate Billy's birthday, Steve stuns Carolee with the news that Dan says he'll divorce her once he's released from the hospital. Dan gloats that he tricked Steve into changing the vasopressor bottle, leaving his fingerprints on it, so that he has the final power over Steve and Carolee's life. Hank tells Nick that Dr. Hendryx is giving Mike a hard time and asks Nick to have a chat with Hendryx. Nick admits that he doesn't like Hendryx either but agrees to talk with him. Mike tries to cheer up Toni by inviting her to be a part of his family. Toni says that the only one who can help her is Uncle Dan, who has all the answers she needs. She insists that he has to get better and tell her what she wants to know. In his hospital room, Dan realizes that he's got to shut off the valve on the vasopressor drip. Steve admits to Carolee that he never thought he could feel anything but hatred for Dan, but when Dan agreed to release Carolee, he felt compassion and gratitude. Dan recalls Steve saying that he never meant to hurt him, but Dan thinks he was lying, just as Matt was. Dan reaches the IV valve and turns it off. He's certain that he will die, and Steve will pay for it. As he gasps his last breath, he vows that Carolee will never forget him. The cardiac monitor flatlines in eerie silence.—Skip Eastport
