The morning of Dan's funeral, Steve phones Emma to offer his help. She says Carolee will need him afterward. Nick tells Hank that he tried to talk with Dr. Hendryx, though it didn't go well. Nick jokes that Hendryx is a first-rate neurosurgeon but needs a lobotomy on his ego. Hank suggests that Nick should forget reasoning with Hendryx and instead, replace him. A saddened Billy wonders what will happen to Dan's clothes. Emma tells him that some will be given away, but they'll keep some, too, because when a person dies, you keep a bit of them alive in your heart. Billy asks if that's true even when the person didn't love you. Carolee overhears his remark and swears on scout's honor that his father did love him. Cadman questions Nick about an altercation involving Steve and Dan last winter in the staff lounge when Steve declared that he would kill Dan. Nick very obviously doesn't want to say anything damaging, so he excuses himself as late for the funeral. After the funeral, Carolee berates herself for not being more compassionate to Dan, but Steve reminds her that they can't bury the fact that Dan was unbalanced. Carolee pumps Steve about his mysterious upcoming meeting with Nick, as well as his long interview with Cadman. When Carolee persists for details, Steve admits that he forgot to tell the police that he changed Dan's bottle of vasopressor. Carolee worries what will happen if the police think he's lying. At Hope Memorial, Cadman pumps Cathy about her relationship with Steve and the other woman he was seeing besides her. She becomes nervous, spills her coffee, and tries to leave. Cadman threatens her that he can question her at the hospital or downtown. Cathy sits to answer his questions. Steve speculates to Carolee that the real murderer will be found, and he'll never see or hear from Cadman again.
