- Waiting for Cadman to arrive at the Allison home, Steve urges Carolee to keep their relationship a secret, but she counters that Cadman might have a better understanding with that knowledge. Cadman confronts Steve about the threat he made against Dan in the staff lounge and won't let him stay for Carolee's interview. Althea tells Maggie that Edna has been diagnosed with Wernicke's syndrome. Maggie phones Greta, instructing her to tell Mrs. Halstead not to bring her to the hospital for her session with John because he's going to Greenville. Afterward, she experiences the phantom sound again and a dizzy spell. Cadman probes Carolee to ascertain why a situation with Billy running away would prompt Steve to threaten Dan. Maggie cautions Steve that he should worry about himself instead of Carolee because Detective Cadman won't give up asking questions. At the Allison home, Carolee does her best to avoid Cadman's questions about the incident in the lounge, insisting that she wasn't there and consequently couldn't know what the quarrel was about. Cadman moves on to ask her about another incident when Dan turned up at Steve's apartment, pounding on the door demanding to see Carolee. Carolee pretends she doesn't know anything, but Cadman reveals that Miss Saunders identified Carolee as hiding in the hallway and eavesdropping on the argument. Stunned, Carolee offers the flimsy excuse that she and Dan argued, so she went to see Althea, and later Steve, because they were involved in the situation professionally. Cadman says that Steve threatened to kill Dan for tormenting Carolee. Carolee, unable to respond, sits quietly, and Cadman leaves. After he's gone, she quickly phones Steve, saying she has to see him immediately.—Skip Eastport
