Harry and Maddie drive, Maddie would like to go to Vail or Aspen for Christmas, Harry is distracted about the IA 128 interview. In the office Bosch and Sgt. Mankiewicz sit with Sgt Snyder. Bosch doesn't dispute the O'Shea video incident but counters that the DA was only worried about his win-loss record. Bosch says he will appeal to the Chief, Snyder replies 'as usual'.
Robertson shows Bosch the Jesse Tafero fingerprints, Jesse had failed the police entrance exam. They plan how to arrest and question the Tafero's. Robertson asks directly if Bosch has anything else, Harry demurs.
Jerry shows the DNA on the roach was for Woody. They will use this for a warrant and overtime for surveillance.
Capt Lewis meets Chief Irving to talk about Billets and Bosch. Irving knows that Lewis and Billets have a personal connection and defuses Lewis' hint to move Billets to another station.
Bosch and Edgar watch Woody's place in their car, Harry begins to lighten up as a partner.
Robertson and Pierce go to Jesse Tafero's workplace and ask if he can come to the station for a talk, Tafero good naturedly agrees.
At the beach a relief team of cops come and replace Bosch and Edgar,
Robertson and Pierce follow Tafero's car but lose him in traffic, after a bit of panic they realize he is driving to the station.
Benitez and Ffolkes argue to a judge whether to allow Bosch's previous civil trial be admissible, the judge agrees with Ffolkes. Voir Dire will commence next week.
Robertson and Pierce see Jesse in an interview room. Jesse admits he was a drinking buddy with Gunn, realizes they pulled a print. Robertson asks for his alibi, said he was was watching World Cup soccer reruns with his brother. Bosch calls in to interrupt. Bosch and Robertson discuss the interview strategy, Robertson wants to do it his way. Jesse IDs a photo of the barmaid at the Smog Cutter bar, the interview goes sideways and Robertson cuffs Tafero, they empty his pockets and take his watch. Sgt. Mankiewicz completes the arrest then they give him his call.
Crate and Barrel finally find street cam video of the black BMW with stolen plates on the night of Sharkey's murder. The videos show the car travel toward the murder scene and Xavi returning alone. Harry and Geace congratulate the two but will not act on it until they talk to Woody.
Rudy Tafero arrives at the station, Robertson already plans to release Jesse with a tail. After a tense meeting the cops agree to release the younger Tafero, Bosch acting as the voice of reason. Bosch and Edgar update each other by cell.
At the Edgar's Jerry finds out his son was using the neighbor's wifi for downloading big files. The boy is sorry but was using the faster wifi to download pirated Rosetta Stone files for many languages; Chinese Russian and Gaelic.
Driving, Rudy stops to toss his watch away.
At a nice rooftop restaurant Irving and Jun Park enjoy an elegant date. The chef knows Irving personally. They enjoy the same pop-classical music.
Tafero and Holland discuss the arrest, Holland is worried what Jesse said to the cops, Rudy reassures him the cops have nothing. Rudy kisses Marissa on the way out.
Harry tells Maddie it's OK to go on the volleyball travel team, the girl is very happy. He then gazes at the screen grab of Jesse Tafero on his laptop.
In the morning Bosch and Edgar replace the night crew watching Woody's place.
Irving meets with the IA Captain, he asks the senior officer to put the Snyder case on Bosch aside for now.
Bosch and Edgar make small talk, Jerry goes to get coffee. Bosch gets a phone call, the dark SUV he was looking for has been recovered and is being held for prints. Woody is on his phone by the coffee shop, he sees Jerry approach and reacts but Jerry is quicker and fires two shots, Woody goes down. Harry hears the shots and calls for backup. Woody is dead with a gun beside the body. Harry arrives and asks if his partner is OK.
Later Edgar goes through the shooting in detail with the FID team, he admits he didn't see a weapon before he fired.
Harry goes to Xavi's shop, it is deserted and locked up. He then goes to Dobbs' house which is also closed up. He reports to Grace, Harry warns that the two may go after Jerry as payback. She agrees to put a guard on him. Harry gives Jerry a ride home from the debrief. At the house two have a drink, Jerry is sad for killing a man and not seeing the gun before firing, but Harry tries to lift his spirits, saying he reacted to his training and instincts, and to put it behind him.
Later, Harry calls Sgt Mankiewicz, he sees a fire in he distance from his own balcony. A retirement home is burning and Harry says he knows a retired detective living there, hopes he is alright.
