The bombing suspect was said to have done 11 years in prison, which places his crime within the span of The Closer (2005), presumably around season 2. 11 years ago neither Sharon nor Sykes were part of the unit, yet all current members except Flynn were shown as being targeted, while none of the prior members such as Brenda, Daniels, or Gabriel were shown. An additional related error here was the omission of Flynn from the target photos. Flynn was a member of the original team that investigated the suspect. However, since the pictures taken were from the funeral in the prior episode, and Flynn wasn't at the funeral due to his health issues, all of the pictures being of the current Major Crimes squad minus Flynn is perfectly accurate.
After the detonation of the bomb, the police would not go back into the area as shown. They would fall back and allow the bomb squad entry to check for a secondary device.
While the suspect was unarmed when Flynn had him at gunpoint, he lawfully could have shot or otherwise incapacitated him due to the threat he poised by being able to remotely detonate a bomb. Based upon Flynn's comment, he realized this after the bomb had been detonated.
While talking about a subject that had been released on parole, both Nolan and Provenza use the term parole hearings, with Nolan commenting on how the subject attended all of them after being released on parole. A parole hearing is used to determine if a subject will be placed on parole. Once on parole, the subject usually must attend regular meetings with their parole officers. Someone already on parole would not attend a parole hearing, something experienced detectives would know.
