Odd plotline. Actors are good, but plot fails the movie
jk-692-23639429 December 2018
I actually liked all the actors. The plot is not good. It just does not work. Their best friend couple are pretty adorable and charismatic, and the dog is a cutie. It is watchable, but oddly slow and strange in spots, and I cannot quite put my finger on it, but I think the bad script is where the whole thing fails. I did watch the entire thing, because I liked the actors. As a story however it is not satisfying.

Dumb and Dumber
rebekahrox19 May 2020
I thought this might be a remake of the funny and charming If a Man Answers with Sandra Dee and bobby Darin. No such luck. The only thing it had going for it was the change of pace from the usual Hallmark tropes. The couple was already married and working to save their marriage. No festivals! Yay! However the female lead character was an incompetent marriage counselor and stupid and clueless to boot with her own marriage. Her mother was toxic and not in a fun way. The black couple was sensible and well adjusted. Not sure why they were friends with the idiot main couple.

Adorable
jspderm24 August 2019
I gave it a five because it is no award winner. It moves slow and the acting is not A list, for sure ... But it's adorable and actually gives really good relationship advice ( treat somebody well and they will treat you well )....

One of the most disappointing movies i watched
saraivasgustavo12 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is slow, they wasted over 50 minutes in the introduction of the plot and than had 20 minutes to show everything else. The result is a movie that drags on for an hour and have a rushed ending with no twist or anything that would get me interested. Very poor plot and production. 2 parts annoyed the f out of me: First she say she wants a kid and will try to get pregnant again. 5 years later we dont see a kid with them and absolutely nothing is explained. What happened? And the second and worst thing of all movie: WTF WAS THAT GREEN SCREEN? The guy travels to PARIS and the only scene we have from him there is a scene where he stands with a clearly fake view of some random mountains behind him and no people, nothing reminding of France, zero noise... what the hell where they thinking? Give me a green screen and i will do exactly the same thing in less than 2 minutes.

Such a bad, poor, boring movie.

What in the world just happened...
lovey-0486817 May 2020
I watch and enjoy Hallmark movies. My daughter teases me and says they're corny, but I find them quite relaxing. However I have to say, this is the worst Hallmark movie I have ever seen. The two main characters had no chemistry what so ever. The consistent use of the green scene was ridiculous, the writing and plot was awful, the editing must have been done by amateurs, and you have to wait for an hour and ten minutes for the husband to become a real part of the movie and the acting was atrocious. I truly understand why this movie sat on the shelf for two year's. There was no purpose yo this movie. "Don't waste your time, it was HORRIBLE"!!

Unlikeable Female Lead and Distracting and blinding stark white sets made this unwatchable
mcarneil-0988217 May 2020
I've always enjoyed the films Julie Gonzalo has done for Hallmark except for this one but then I realized this originally was not on Hallmark and it goes back to 2017-2018 and was made for another channel. Hallmark only purchased the rights to air it and they were were hoping the name recognition would get people to watch it. Well they were right. I did watch it. And I thoroughly disliked it. The Jillian James character came off as elitist and arrogant. There was little chemistry between the leads. The other characters were flat. The minimalist all white sets were extremely distracting. When I first saw the commercial for this I thought ot was great that Hallmark was doing something different but buying bad films is not going to impress the majority of the audience. Hopefully this will be one of the films that will not be rerun much because I will be changing the channel whenever it comes again.

Watch the whole movie
cawolfe-5222517 May 2020
I find it interesting that there are at least two bad reviews that are dated May 17, 2020 when the movie is premiering on Hallmark as I write this. Today is May 16th and the movie is not even half over. I like that the plot is a bit different from the typicaL where you know from the first five minutes what happens.

An hour of my life I'll never get back...
devastationfilms131 July 2019
Full disclosure: I work on films...so my opinion is pretty biased.

For starters, I take no pleasure in trashing a film...this one is just unavoidable.

TL;DR = A marriage counselor tries to come up with an idea for a new book (deadlines!!!), while also trying to fix her own marriage...oh and there's a puppy. Bad cinematography, bad editing, bad acting, bad writing...just bad.

Now, for the main part:...I gave up an hour into this film. This movie makes Hallmark films look like gold. The cinematography was just plain amateur. Deep focus throughout, bad framing, completely blown out highlights...like, for real, there's a thing called "ND filters"...use them. They make them in gels too, toss 'em up on all those dang windows.

Production design was awful. White walls throughout, hardly any glasses in the cupboards, scant decorations...it looked like they rented an apartment for shooting and just used what was there. Very little color, which translates to very little life on screen. The moire was pretty atrocious, (which, if it were relegated to a couple of scenes, I'd look past it as being the screen...but there were a bunch of them...). Oh, and there's a part where a male dog does a very female dog thing...you'll see what I mean if you make it that far. Obviously, they had to fake it, and did a poor job.

The acting was awkward...very awkward. Think college class short film awkward. Which leads me to the writing and directing, which I'm sure was half the problem here: the writing is probably the worst part of this movie. So Much Exposition!!! This isn't theatre...I don't want the character to tell me what they're feeling, I want them to SHOW ME!!! Show Dont Tell!!! Ugh! That's my biggest pet peeve of all time. Adding to the dumpster fire, is the dialogue. Did they not do any table reads? Literally NONE of the dialogue sounded natural. It all sounded rehearsed...and exposition-ridden.

The characters were flat as all get-out. I couldn't care less what happened to them...not that anything ever really did. If it happened after the first hour...too late, you've already lost everyone's attention.

Editing wasn't terrible...but it wasn't great either...just kinda meh. There were a few very awkward cuts that should've had a redo.

There's probably a dozen other things I picked out that bothered me, but you get my point. Avoid, don't waste an evening like I did.

Someone should take up a Scriptwriting for Dummies course...
fieaoremaolmuire16 January 2019
Gave up near the end. For over one hour I was waiting for something to happen; there were no plot points or plot twists, the 'funny' scenes fell flat, character arcs and relationship dynamics weren't developed. Wouldn't even classify it as amateurish, it was below that. Whole movie could be summed up as: watch a marriage therapist/expert try to desperately come up with an idiotic book idea (because deadlines) that will inevitably ruin her already failing marriage; bonus: puppy scenes!

Good Movie
athompsonblue25 April 2021
It's unfortunate that all the negative reviews are on top of the list. I liked this movie. The acting was sufficient for me -- I wasn't looking for oscar quality. The white sets were fine by me. The story is decent. And I laughed a few times.

Of course the protagonist is unlikable in the beginning. This is her story of growth. SHE changes into a better person. She comes to learn that a successful marriage isn't an analytical formula. It is two people putting in effort every day to keep loving each other, and accepting each other, and not sweating the small stuff.

Absolutely the worst

Absolutely the worst Hallmark film watched in years of being a fan. The main character has no redeeming qualities through to the end. Simply terrible.

Worst movie ever on Hallmark Channel
robby7777717 May 2020
First, I am probably Hallmark Channel's biggest fan. I love their movies and watch them all the time. Some are better than others, but I usually find that I really like them. This however, was terrible, just awful. Everything about it was unwatchable. The scenery, the plot, the acting, the actors and actresses, and filming. I was so disappointed in it. A total waste of a Saturday night.

Disappointing
df-6958417 May 2020
Sorry, Hallmark, really really disappointed liked characters and dog but the plot was not funny, not original and very boring. I realize all movies can't be about single people falling in love but at least give us a little humor and romance like we always expect in a Hallmark movie. Good luck next time!

How to train me to hate this movie
RenT-8306523 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have really been frustrated with Hallmark and thought (based on the previews) this was actually going to be a cute movie. Lord was I wrong! Hallmark keeps playing this movie as though it's new and original but it's from 2018 and should have stayed there.

An hour into the movie was soooooo slow and boring. I just kept waiting for anything interesting to happen. It's just one boring scene after another slowly put together.

I liked the actors so I won't say anything negative about them but the characters?!? Where to even start? Jillian is such a horrible wife, let alone a therapist! I was actually rooting for Justin to leave her. From the first interaction they shared you could tell she was a piece of work. Probably gets it from her mom who delivered one negative line after another. I didn't enjoy her character at all. Bitter mom, party of one.

With all the sadness happening in the world right now I'm just surprised Hallmark would purchase the rights and release a movie with such a negative view of marriage and a Debby Downer outlook :(

Please just focus on making better Christmas movies because this is a fail.

worst marriage counselor ever
sarajimi19 May 2020
All the funny parts were in the ads and weren't all that funny in the context. the lead is a marriage counselor who plays games with her husband. apparently aaron joins justin in leaving his wife but we don't know that until he goes back so why he left is never explained. mom is poison to the relationship until she does an about 180, again for no explanation. not to mention the totally fake backdrop/green screen when justin's supposed to be in europe; there are plenty of places in america or canada that would've doubled easily. the only competent counselor in the whole thing is the dog trainer. basically, the story is flat with no development, stilted dialogue, and the only chemistry is between nicole and aaron. not even the cute puppy can save this tragedy.

Not a Hallmark movie
mnapflorida17 May 2020
I was unsure about the trailer for this movie and sadly I was correct. The acting and the script was just awful, only the dog was likeable. Could not watch it through.

Worst Hallmark movie in recent memory
skywlkr-2855417 May 2020
Wow...Not every Hallmark movie is memorable. Some are keepers, this was not. So very disappointed in plot, carachter development, dialogue and Julie. She's an endeared Hallmark actor. Why on earth would she agree to a character so shallow and clueless?

No! No! This was terrible.
gordonm88822 May 2020
Karla Mosely, the black actress who plays the friend, Nicole, was great. She has real star quality and can act.

HOWEVER, this movie was really bad, even graded on a Hallmark curve. Watching it was one long cringe. The lead character is very unlikeable - a clueless version of Cruella DeVille. She is bad with dogs, bad with her husband, bad with her clients and a whiny clueless friend.

Nothing in this movie is remotely plausible. The big stuff, the small stuff -its all wrong. The script is terrible. Dog classes last one minute, marriage counseling sessions last two minutes, a lawyer offers a character a job while sitting at a table in the park, hubby goes to Europe by himself after scheduling a Paris vacation as a surprise. On and on.

This film lacked wit, charm, characters you care about, plausibility and chemistry between its leads. Plot, sets, music, dialog were amateurish. The moment it ended , my wife asked me to erase it from the DVR. I wish I could erase it from my memory.

d-h-martin17 May 2020
This is a story about the world's stupidest marriage therapist, which could be entertaining if it were that on purpose. Characters are flat, and the story is a snore. Lots of boring irrelevant scenes. Miss this one if you can!

At 14 minutes I quit. I was terribly annoyed the entire time. I watch movies for enjoyment not to be annoyed. That is fat the fastest I have ever quit a movie. Enough said.

Hilarious comedy about a marriage therapist who wants to train her husband........
digiteum4 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There is the suggestion that women can train and mould their husbands to be their ideal mate. Is a man as trainable as a puppy, some women might think they are! In the movie when she tries to treat her husband like the book suggests, things go disastrously wrong, and she almost loses her man. A real sentimental tear jerker, that ends up in a kiss and make up! Your certainly enjoy it!
