The film was originally titled "Private Drive". When Tony skateboards to school on his first day, he passes by a sign that reads this. Joseph Collins thought this was too cheesy, so the title was changed and the scene was kept in.
Originally, Kris Pond was to play a friend of Maya's (named Brooke), who would appear in a scene where her and Maya are talking about Tony as they watch him pass them by on the first day. But the two had some conflicts between each other prior to the start of production, and her role was changed to one of Martin's sidekicks.
The picture that is on top of Tony's record player is of the band, English Eyes. The photo was given to Joseph Collins months prior by Dan Skye, the lead singer of the band.
In order to keep continuity, Joseph Collins refused to get a full haircut during the majority of filming. Only his bangs and his sideburns were occasionally cut off.
When the film started to get a bad rep, Joseph Collins decided to have some fun with it by creating a poster which parodies the poster to The Room and by taking certain clips from the movie and making a sitcom intro out of it.
