This pilot episode was an alternate version of what would be episode 1, with notable differences, like Tina Sainz portraying an adult version of Chala, Manuel Galiana portraying Chala's brother Manolo instead of her grandfather, cousin Rosita, portrayed by Rosa León dressed in casual clothing instead of a disguise like the definitive version of the character, and different characters portrayed by different actors.
Some of the differences of this pilot with the final version of the episode:
- Both Chala and Manolo are young adults, and they are brothers. In the final version, Chala (although still portrayed by the same adult actress) is a child and Galiana's character is Chala's grandfather, with heavy makeup and a more elaborate costume.
- Cousin Rosita is dressed casually, while in the final version she always wears some kind of disguise.
- All of the neighbors except the Mayor (who is more middle aged) are young adults like Chala and Manolo and they all wear casual clothes.
- The chimney sweep, although played by the same actor has clown make up and is completely mute. The final version of the character doesn't have this make up and speaks, albeit with an out of order grammar.
- In the final version, Chala never gets to tell her tale and no one does in her place. In this pilot, the woman in the painting, who is portrayed by a different actress to the final version, while all the other characters are distracted, actually tells the kids watching the show a legit tale, which is shown narrated by her and protagonized by marionettes. These marionettes who also introduced the credits at the beginning, were absent in the final version.
- The dream seller in this version is mute, but speaks with globes he pulls out with his words written on them, like a comic. The final version speaks normally and is portrayed by a different actor.
- In this version, Proser is a young woman. In the final version she's an old lady.
- All the neighbors in the pilot version except the Mayor wear similar casual costumes, with simple jeans and shirts, even if decorated with some fantasy motives. In the final version all characters are characterized with more elaborate varied costumes, in general resembling more like a traditional late Medieval, Early Modern Age town costumes in fantasy flavor.
- At the end, the episode finishes with a sing-along performed by various characters which is not present in the final version.
