- Johnny displays signs for international travelers. Christopher Reeve (Superman III (1983)); Leonard J. Waxdeck presents his high school bird callers.
- The comedy segment is showing symbols that could be used by international visitors to the U.S. to communicate. Leonard Waxdeck founded and runs the annual Piedmont High School (CA) bird calling contest. He tells how they are getting much more attention since the students began appearing on "The Tonight Show". He also talks about all the nice letters they have received from celebrities, including President Reagan and European royalty, who were invited but could not attend. He has seven student bird-callers, who imitate the black tern, oak titmouse, jackass penguin (a duo), black oystercatcher, ruffed grouse and domestic canary. When introducing them, he emphasizes their involvement in sports, cheerleading, and theater. Afterwards, Johnny demonstrates his chicken imitation. Christopher Reeve talks about being godfather to Robin Williams' son, in a decidedly offbeat ceremony in Marin County; he recalls that he and Williams were classmates at Juilliard, and talks about having John Houseman as a teacher. He also talks about his young son's understanding of his profession. Then he talks about "Superman III" and shows a clip. He also mentions seeing the Space Shuttle Challenger land at Edwards Air Force Base, and being taken for a ride in a T-38, doing inverted loops and barrel rolls; Johnny recalls going for a ride with the Air Force's Thunderbirds at an air show. Finally, Reeve mentions that he will be doing the play "Holiday" with Blythe Danner and Ken Howard in Williamstown, Massachusetts.—lenab9011
