Mary exhausts James's loyalty, ever clashing, now over how to handle a leak among her advisers. James refuses to seduce John Knox's wife, Emily for information but he ends up agreeing they can only count on each-other in the end. Butt f the game is a Scottish village in contested border land, besieged by the English, to whom supplies must be sent while misleading the enemy, whose moles foiled three attempts. John Knox visits the English court, where he narrowly escapes entrapment by Elizabeth, Gideon and Narcisse. Narcisse, frustratingly unable to avenge Lola, sabotages Elizabeth's attempt to allow Darnley to marry Keira. At French court, Charles is increasingly absent from his royal duties, leaving Catherine to block Leeza's attempts to impose Spanish influence there by repatriating chancellor Narcisse, but Charles secretly suffers from a serious illness. Mary asks Greer to move to Scotland permanently, and to manage Lola's family's estates.
