Russians and Russian Nukes!!!1!1!
mikeholmes-4801215 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I was so excited to see a Russian theme. So we already learned from Macgyver that Venezuela and some other country i can't remember right now are crap holes, now we can poo poo Russia. And its very throwback to the 80's show to mention Russian nukes. So it starts off again, with some big action scene that wasn't worthy of an episode and they all escape again. I cant remember how or why, remember a bomb, but it was last night i was drinking and i didn't t note that in my notes. So they then do this cheesy intervention bit where roommate and coworkers are telling him they noticed he is cyber stalking his dead ex, but who is really still alive but the roommate is concerned as he doesn't know but not concerned that Macgyvers computer program looks like it was made by a really really sophisticated technology. If someone was on my computer, they'd see club Pogo and Stabley Cap on the bookmark pages. Not the same. Penny Parker made her appearance, she seems like an ultra liberal therapist who is just made for cheesy dialogue. she'll ensure this show gets canceled if they use her a lot.

So i had a kid talking but Mac, Jack, and Female Thorton and Lisa Bonet computer programmer with boobs hanging out (shes so hot) were watching a colleague in Russia who found a locked box with serious radiatoion. THorton then agrees she should open right away instead of waiting for some group to come and Mac tells her how to open the box with a bullet casing cause pens are hard to find in Russian lab type places. So its a big huge fat nuclear bomb. It was kinda cute. But it was really old and they realized it had super old computer programming. Kinda like how i take my 1997 copy of "Quake " and want ot put it on my computer but the technology advanced and it wont work. Its frustrating.

So the bad Russian guys break in and everyone sees her get knocked down off camera and shot. Then she is dragged dead but no blood. I thought at first "i don't know her, its like shes a red shirt Star Trek character" and sure enough, i was right. A red shirt would have given the inkling she was shot. So it becomes obvious they have to find this bomb, the guy is now pressed to use it and he's all for restoring soviet Russia and using the bomb to finish the cold war. How about it . When i draw hockey cartoons, i always give the Russians star and sickle and red uniforms. Looks so much more better than their stupid American like red and blue striped uniforms. Anyhow, Mac, Jack and Lisa Bonet go to a Retirement home to find the old guy who knows how to disarm the bomb cause he made it and defected to the USA. He's like Mac and hard to capture using cool diversions but Mac finds him, and gets punched in the face. that was nice. Then the old guy compys, mentions a friend Victor i believe, who knows the passwords but they hate each other since 1991 but now are okay after a while. So all this crap is happening, Lady Thorton is stalking/ beating up/ killing Russian guys to find Intel, predictable cheesiness is overflowing with old guy being Macgyver like and Victor being like Jack Dalton (stubborn, not a mustached cab driving looking guy, that's the 80s series), and they are realizing the bomb needs real old tech and computers to shut it off. So they go to some secret hotel room that has a secret safe wall. this is where i expected Victor to be snipered and Mac would have to devise a way to open the safe but that'd be too easy. Instead they'd have to devise a way to use the computer with a power sourse that isn't a plug. Then they have to escape through a tunnel cause Russians were waiting for them (but didn't't just shoot them as they entered hotel) and Mac makes a bomb that kills them but Victor is kidnapped and forced to agreed to make more bombs, while one has 15 minutes to detonate. So here's the real spoiler alert, Mac realizes that Victor and the old guy never considered Y2K and with 15 seconds or so left, the bomb is now computed with a Macgyver made keyboard that i didn't't understand and they have a 100 years to deactivate it. So no cutting wires and hoping. Victor is shot by some guy that gets the energy to shot him that Jack thought he shot. Bad guy caught and hot Lisa bonet watches the "Price is RIght" with the old guy though i got the impression he hated that show. but watch it with Lisa Bonet hot chic...yay. He could make fun of all those wacko audience members and build himself up, maybe she would bite, that's what i'd do if i was a 80 something year old in a nursing home with her.

The old odd couple
tenshi_ippikiookami11 April 2017
The beginning of this episode is the best so far in this young TV series. It is full of humor, funny moments, and MacGyver and Jack's exchanges with their older, Russian, Cold War versions is full also of tongue-in-cheek moments. It has great rhythm and non-stop plot developments.

However, the second part, after the introduction of this episode's characters, falls again into the bang bang bang, make things explode, kill the rent-a-episode extras and wait for the next episode to repeat everything again. It is a pity, because the start is the perfect example of what this show can offer: humor, silly invents by MacGyver and fresh, non-stop pace.
