Clash of titans when cinema was born
The documentary explores, with excellent footage, the importance of two pioneer bunisnessmen, Pathé and Gaumont, to the history of cinema, their rivalry, their idiosyncrasies, their innovations, the constraints they faced. As it often happens when I watch documentaries about the history of cinema (and interestingly most of them are French productions), I got interested to watch several films portrayed there. And then there is the greatest flaw in this documentary, usually not present in this kind of movie: when it comes to the films produced by Pathé or Gaumont, information was delivered in a hurry, not carefully connected, with very few mentions to the titles of those productions. The documentary could have been better if there were this concern.
