Review after S02E16:

After a rather slow, sedate and uninteresting start, 24 is now holding out on its own. The script is basically a scene-to-scene adaptation of the original 24, Season 3. Some cosmetic changes have been made to suit regional sensibilities.

But, the original 24/III was released 13 years back and with its Virus theme may have been topical then. Its a bit stagnant now, with terrorism lurking every corner. (The Indian version doesn't even have a name for the virus.) Thats a minor glitch.

The proceedings lacks the intensity of the original but, by Indian TV standards, its yards ahead. Anil Kapoor needs to be complemented for that. Though, I am very unhappy with his portrayal of the protagonist. He plays Jai Singth Rathore loudly, always shouting unlike Jack Baeur who is soft, intense and very vulnerable. I don't feel concerned for Jai Singh half as-much as I do for Jack.

Sakshi Tanwar is uni-dimensional, the other ATU unit are just about okay. The good performances come from the politicians who are remarkably underplayed by the three leads, including Anita Raaj who is pretty good as the vamp.

So, a decent effort. I look forward each Saturday/Sunday for the episodes and that is saying it all.
