When I Was Seventeen: An Homage to Benoit Lestang (2012)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This twelve minute featurette has Jean-Pierre Bouyxou discussing the special effects work of Benoit Lestang on Jean Rollin's THE LIVING DEAD GIRL. Bouyxou talks about him discussing with Rollin that they were going to have to hire someone with very little money we then flash to interview footage of Lestang, which was recorded sometime before his death. We then hear back and forth as both men discuss the making of the picture and the various special effects that were used. What I enjoyed most about this is the fact that both men are quite honest in their discussion of the effects and this includes how some of them looked pretty bad. Lestang goes into good detail about the type of make-up he used and what complications happened, which caused the make-up to change color and look very fake on screen. He also talks about his influences and what he learned years after making this picture.
