Fox Sports is shaking things up a bit. “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed” moderator Joy Taylor is leaving the morning debate show to serve as news anchor for “The Herd With Colin Cowherd.” Jenny Taft will replace her as the moderator on Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe’s version of ESPN’s “First Take.”
Taylor, who has moderated for “Undisputed” since its 2016 premiere, will make her debut alongside Cowherd on the FS1 and Fox Sports Radio Network simulcast, on June 18.
“We’re thrilled to announce new roles for Joy and Jenny on ‘The Herd’ and ‘Undisputed,'” Whit Albohm, vice president, studio production/executive producer, FS1, said on Thursday. “Both have been consummate professionals – Joy having been a major part of ‘Undisputed’s rise and Jenny’s extensive resume, including her upcoming World Cup duties in Russia. Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed” broke its own TV ratings record, when 283,000 total viewers tuned in Monday to watch host Skip Bayless eat crow over his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Dubbed “America’s Team,” Bayless’s favorite squad lost a nail-biter NFL Playoff game to the Green Bay Packers the previous day. The former Dallas Morning News columnist had pretty much guaranteed a Super Bowl victory — let alone a divisional round win — for his hometown team. Rut-roh. Skip Bayless’ impact on Fox Sports 1’s TV ratings is truly undisputed. The former ESPNer’s new series “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed” has produced a 358 percent overall time slot increase in its first month versus the same calendar-part last year. In the key 18-49 demographic, the jump is a whopping 733 percent in the 9:30 a.m. Et to Noon Et window on FS1. Last September, prime competitor ESPN2’s average viewership was 23 times that of Fox Sports 1. This time, the ESPN2 advantage was down to three times that of FS1. Not bad for four weeks of work. The Fox Sports 1 debut of “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed” couldn’t hold a candle to chief competition “First Take,” but it still delivered great growth internally. Tuesday’s premiere of Skip Bayless’ new debate show delivered a .10 overnight Nielsen rating, which is a 400 percent improvement over the same time period last year. Back then, the Fox-owned cable channel received a .02, running repeats of live events and studio shows. Additionally, the premiere’s preliminary TV ratings were 233 percent better than the channel’s August 2016 average (a .03), when FS1 aired similar filler. Plus, Bayless and Shannon Sharpe now offer a legitimate lead-in.
