Rosanna Spearman places her love letter to Franklin Blake and other items in a deed box, secures it with a chain attached to a rock and throws it into the sea.
Franklin's retrieval of the box a year later is ludicrous . It now some 50 metres out at sea nowhere near a rock. It would have been buried in the sea bottom by the tides and waves and impossible to locate. The chain is loose and easily removed.
The deed box is clean, free of rust and weed. It is not a waterproof box yet the contents are dry and undamaged. Submerge such a box in reality and the contents would be all but destroyed.
