This episode reminded me of The Stasi who often used a method called Zersetzung.

And the goal was to destroy secretly the self-confidence of people, for example by damaging their reputation, by organizing failures in their work, and by destroying their personal relationships.

The Stasi didn't try to arrest every dissident. It preferred to paralyze them, and it could do so because it had access to so much personal information and to so many institutions.

The best informants were those whose jobs entailed frequent contact with the public.

Full-time officers were posted to all major industrial plants.

One tenant in every apartment building was designated as a watchdog.

Spies reported every relative or friend who stayed the night at another's apartment.

Tiny holes were drilled in apartment and hotel room walls through which Stasi agents filmed citizens with special video cameras.

Schools, universities, and hospitals were extensively infiltrated as were organizations, such as computer clubs where teenagers exchanged Western video games.

Covering up a Scandal
Samuel-Shovel19 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"The Cali KGB" shows us a little more of the inner workings of the Cali cartel and how they operate. The main plot line of this episode revolves around a scandal of some improper disposal of toxic gas, causing a number of deaths in an apartment complex. The Cali cartel must do its best to cover this up and make it look like an accident.

We're getting a clearer picture of who the focus of this season will be on. Of course the bigwigs of the cartel will be front and center but a few side plots seem to be forming, as well.

Maria Salazar has gotten a lot of screen time as she searches for the whereabouts of her husband. A relationship with Miguel seems likely to happen.

Jorge's struggle with his current job position looks to be something to watch moving forward, as well. He clearly wants out but has a family to worry about. He has a commanding screen presence and I've enjoyed the scenes he's been in so far.

But my favorite scene of this episode has to be the barber shop scene. The tension in this one was fantastic and the little bit of countdown humor really tied it together nicely. It also has a cameo from Gabriel Iglesias and while I'm not a huge fan, I think he did a rather fine job.

Conclusion: Narcos continues to deliver as a great dramatic series and this episode is no different.

The Cali KGB
bobcobb30125 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I hope they don't run out of ways to kill people this season as we already have seen some crazy ones and yet I have not lost interest yet.

This season is off to a really strong start and they have done a good job developing the different personalities of the Cali Cartel. They make it so easy to root against them, which is a reversal of the first two seasons where it was hard to hate Pablo Escobar.

Shows how much power the Cali KGB have
TheDonaldofDoom5 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Agent Peña takes a backseat as this episode mostly shows how the Cali Cartel works, how deep its roots go. It's about their operation to keep the truth- that they were responsible for the gas leak- from coming out. Although the way the plot goes isn't surprising, it is fascinating to see that they are able to tap the phones of anyone. It seems a little convenient that it was *that* easy to get dirt on the guy, though. Predictably, it ends with the story being covered up, so this episode doesn't offer any surprises, but even so it's nice to see some insight into the Cali Cartel and its characters. Pretty good episode though probably not a standout by the end of the season.

The necessity of eliminating the Cali Cartel
TheBigSick2 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2 essentially demonstrates how the Cali KGB work. They can tap your phone and monitor your room. In this episode, they video the family scandal of a government official and force him to tell a lie to the world, which covers up a horrible crime committed by the Cali Cartel.

After seeing this, Agent Pena feels it is necessary to eliminate the Cali Cartel and sends Agent Feistl to Cali.
