I watched this movie not even knowing the plot. I thought it started off OK. I didn't mind the bad acting at first and it had a little bit of a Waiting vibe. Then it went down hill. The party scene killed all my interest in the rest of the movie, and yet I sat and watched as it never redeemed itself. The pace actually stalled at points and some of the conversations seemed like inside jokes that most people will not get. I want to give it a 3, but there was some animation/blue screen work that steer me more towards a 1 because it was so bad. So if you are looking at this thinking it might be a hidden gem like The Subjects or something slightly amusing like The Specials, keep looking. This is not the film for you. It is just a bad film with a very homemade feel to it.

This movie is pushing some weird point of view, it was not made to entertain. Ok, spoilers, dont read below if you want to see this nonsense.
Guy who is not into comic books finds one, repeats dumb phrase main char from comic says, which is utter nonsense ("Be your own friend", yeah, because apparently nobody else wants to be your friend), dresses up like that char for a party, bangs a 17 year old dressed like that comic chars sidekick. Then it just gets downhill from there. Ends with him most likely going to prison for dumbest things I've ever seen in any movie.
Friendly advice: If you banged some chick at a party, and you find out she was 17, dont go talk to her when she is with her parents in restaurant you work at. And if someone is in abusive relationship, and they stay in it, you beating up person is never going to make things better, just land you in prison. Stay out of other peoples business ...
I guess film is what white knights dream they do, I dont know, it was just plain dumb film I could have been fine without ever hearing about.
If you want to see what a really solid take on a man whose life breaks down looks like watch Falling Down instead. At least that film had a decent point to it. This one does not.

I must start by saying that I do encourage indie or low-budget movies just as much as high cost, special effects rich products .. or even more sometimes.
But just because it's "Indie" or low-budget .. doesn't make it good or worth such high-praise as many reviewers paint this production up to be.
In my opinion this is a movie made from a concept from some group of writers that between themselves think they are "soo different" that everything they make is special and viewable.
I fail to see the value of this movie as anything else than a very VERY limited aduience piece. It's a pretentious and without-a-point script that maybe funny and different for the actors and writers to make. But for the general viewer, this is more a sleeping-pill than any ASMR-video you can find.... that is if you can press MUTE and dim the light down to a minimum, imagine this is a silent relationship-drama without any explaining text.
Sorry, but I agree with the majority and give this a 1/10 .... just because it's just too pretentious to even have any creative value.

I was expecting the standard action hero garbage, and was watching this with pretty low expectations. This is way more mature, and even though there is a young kid and also a young girl in the movie, the story revolved around the adults, which was a nice change from the standard action movies. Although some of the characters really did not seem to serve much purpose, they were ok as background characters and made the main character more real. Older viewers would probably enjoy this movie more than teenagers, as it does deal with a rather complex situation that is not really seen in other superhero movies..

Johnson wrote, directed and starred in this low-budget outing. Fantastic performance; comedy and drama (and everything in between). Johnson gives a very poignant performance, not a false note anywhere, extremely convincing.
One minor plot point that threw me (how did he get Kitt's/Maria's number to text her when he didn't even know her name; it seemed to be somehow based on the Hallowe'en party photo), but so what.
The rest of the cast is also very good, and some of the bit parts are excellent, with some VERY funny dialogue. Great writing!
Highly recommended. Definitely not a run-of-the-mill Hollywood outing!

Mike has an incredibly boring job - he works in a restaurant. (One of the things I learned from this film is, do NOT tell restaurant staff it's your birthday. Several times a day they have to pretend to be happy while singing happy birthday to the customers, while inside, they hate it.)
Mike gets into a graphic novel, yes a comic, about a little known superhero called Captain Black. He decides to do a bit of cosplay, beginning with rescuing a cat from a tree. The neighbours are unimpressed. He improves his getup and goes to a Halloween fancy dress party, and across the room spots a woman dressed as Captain Black's female sidekick. It's immediate 'basic instinct'. Unfortunately for Mike, he goes along with what comes next, no questions asked, until reality sets in. And then his life falls apart.
This wasn't the movie I expected to see. I'm not sure what exactly I expected but it wasn't this. However, I was impressed by this film. Good acting, good direction, all too plausible.
Unique and Worth a Watch

My expectations were not very high when I started watching this movie, but I ended up being pretty impressed by it. The story is very thoughtful and the title character is particularly well written and acted. I watch a lot of indie films, and I found this one to be engaging and well above average. The story is mature and not for kids, but I definitely recommend it to adults who are looking for something with a thoughtful story.
