One of the most well constructed episodes of an anime I have ever witnessed!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode feels like the culmination of everything the show has been building up to so far, and it accomplishes so much within a 20 minute timeframe. The episode does a great job displaying the grander scale of the battle as a whole, alternating between the perspectives of both rookie and veteran exorcists. It also knows when to close in and focus on more personal conflicts, like the encounter between Alma and Kanda.

While the reveal of Alma's true identity was predictable, it doesn't make the twist any less impactful. And the callback to the Ghost of Mater Arc doesn't feel contrived in the slightest. In fact when Konda and Alma share their last moments together while an orchestral rendition of Lala's Lullaby slowly rises in the background, I was nearly moved to tears. It made me feel a very poignant sense of satisfaction, as if all the time I spent with D. Gray-man was well worth it.
