This episode takes place only in the past and it shows us three important stories. It seems that Randall being left at the fire station ended up bringing three happy outcomes. I liked Dr' K's story where he finally moves on after his wife dies. He is the one who gave Jack advice and then Jack's actions helped him to "make his lemonade" as well. Very skillfully done and a nice episode.

Yes, a Recap, But Important New Stuff
Hitchcoc5 April 2024
I agree pretty much with the recap criticism, but there is a lot of additional background provided here. Granted, there are actual scenes, mostly from the Pilot, involving the loss of the third baby and the Doc's advice and his own issues. But now those things are brought to the fore. Randall's arrival is further explained. We are made privy to a shattering marriage involving the fireman who discovered him outside the fire station. We see the insanity of Rebecca's dealing with her pregnancy and her forgetting Jack's birthday. The scene in the liquor store is priceless. And the Doc's coming to grips with his wife's death.
