The majority of the acting is improvised. Several actors separately improvising decided that they would take off their pants. Now it's a comedic theme in the movie representing masculinity.
Filming took a couple of weeks while post-production took nearly 6 months.
In the director's cut, there is a rape scene involving the antagonist Joe stalking, raping, and murdering a girl eating ice cream. This was originally used to highlight the rape/ice cream consumption statistic but was too realistic and didn't fit with the comedic mood of the film.
