Bill encouraged Missy to feel at home with him and develop a friendship with Liz. Missy felt awful when Bill mentioned that Liz told Mary that Missy said Lee had disparaged Pat. Missy's coworker Rusty, who gossips about Pat, eavesdropped on their conversation. Pat reassured Missy that she's angry about what Liz said. The depth of Pat's self-loathing disturbed John who assumed the blame. Liz quietly proposed to Mary that Pat might feel self-conscious if she were sent away to Europe where nobody knows about the scandal. Pat overheard Liz's remarks and became hysterical over the thought that she continues to bring shame to the Matthews name.
