Cloudy is digging a deeper ditch

Okay, so not too long ago, I found out Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs had a couple of shorts to go along with the sequel's DVD and I decided to watch one of them.

This is a simple short focusing on a guy trying to give a pet the thing that he most dreads, BATHS! This is reminiscent of a SpongeBob episode that focused on Spongebob having trouble getting Gary to bathe. It starts off with Flint and Sam going on a date to a restaurant called "Pickle Garden" I don't know who would make a restaurant called "Pickle Garden", I feel like that would drive some people away considering vegetables aren't usually very tasty and I think that was just a stupid reference to Olive Garden.

Sam is disappointed by the date because she thought it was going to be more special. So, Flint shows her his new invention, 2D Memory Thought Translator, which shows the reason why they ended up going to pickle garden. Steve was up to no good again...oh joy. So Flint creates a robot that will bathe Steve as Flint goes out. A couple details I noticed were when Flint was talking while making the robot, his mouth didn't move. And the like turned into lard for some weird reason. Now moving on....

Of course, this doesn't turn out well and his lab ends up being destroyed again in the process with Flint not showing any sort of grief. Wow, this boy had had a rough day, why couldn't he have called the date off?

The camera zooms out back to the present moment with Flint begging Sam not to dump him. To be honest, I don't see a nice girl like Sam dumping Flint for something that wasn't his fault and for one date screwup so the outcome is of course predictable.

And of course, the short ends with Steve dirtying himself up again after he just had a bath and yelling "Meatballs" because get it? That's the movie's title. And then there's the cliched laugh at the end.

Overall, this was a stupid, pointless short that focuses on the worst character of the whole franchise. And I know Flint's a clever guy but I don't know how even Einstein would be able to make something like a 2D Memory Thought Translator at the last minute, especially when Flint wasn't even in his lab throughout this whole shenanigan. And I don't know why they had to do 2D animation for these shorts when most shorts based on CGI movies don't even use 2D Animation or why Flint invented something 2D memory in the first place. I guess it was made for Steve fans and any child who gets amused by the troublesome monkey. If you want to see a better story about a pet not wanting to take a bath, watch that one SpongeBob episode.
