Oh how the years go back looking back at one's young self.
blanbrn3 September 2017
This episode 6 from "Room 104" called "Voyeurs" isn't quite the best one still it's one that reflects back to one's past and a look at how one would like to go back in time and be that again. Set in "Room 104" a maid enters to clean the room only to find a younger lady around who's attractive and full of life. The entire episode has little communication as it's all about music and dance as the maid remembers her younger years of dance. And you the viewer can see the older version of this character would love nothing more than to go back and be that young lady version of herself. Wow talk about how times change and the episode puts an interesting twist on how people would love to go back to the past and have lasting memories forever! Nothing great still a pretty good entertaining tease.

Valuable experimentation, but ultimately unenjoyable
mattcarrollnz16 April 2022
There's no dialogue here: this episode tells a story almost entirely through dance. This is a gift to viewers. You don't really get to see a story told through dance without specifically seeking it out, or visiting the theatre.

Unfortunately, I just didn't enjoy it.

I've been reflecting on why exactly I didn't enjoy this. Am I being closed-minded? Is this an acquired taste? Am I missing out on something beautiful?

The best conclusion I can come to is that this story in particular is just not interesting. I think you can tell an interesting story through dance. I think you can also tell a very boring story through dance. Unfortunately, I think this is a boring story -- dance or no dance.

Essentially, we just see a woman connect and grapple with her past self. It has conflict and emotion, which is something. But there's no real goal, need, danger, surprise, anticipation, or mystery. Simply put, there is little reason for the viewer to care about what happens, and that must be present for a story to be worth watching.

Those who are inclined toward the 'high art' end of things often tend to celebrate bad art because it's 'artistic'. This is an example of it. A good story could have been told this way, but this wasn't one of them.

Present Self changes Past Self
dncorp2 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"The past (Girl, Actress Sarah Hay) and present (Housekeeper, Actress Dendrie Taylor) come face to face when a housekeeper reconnects with her younger self." Apparently the Present Self (Housekeeper Actress Dendrie Taylor) Changed the Past Self (Girl Actress Sarah Hay) by writing over the Birthday Card for a Favorable Outcome. "I'll give it all up to be with you". 12 minutes 46 seconds.

The Present Self (Housekeeper, Actress Dendrie Taylor) disappears. 22 minutes 4 seconds.

Most will not watch the actual Ending that is show after the final HBO Logo.

David Anderson (Man, Actor Matthew Bellows) is opening the door to Room 104 at the same time (Girl, Actress Sarah Hay) is opening the door to Room 105 in the opposite direction. 23 minutes 17 seconds.

I am so glad that Room 104 so far has not turned into one of those typical Cheap Horror Slasher Stereotypes. As Room 104 seems to bring out the best for those staying at Room 104.

The World needs more Truthful Optimists with viable plans to change the World and Humankind's existence, NOT a bunch of Deceitful Pessimists squabbling among themselves as to why things cannot change.

Got Sleepy Watching This
betrue-875-432357 September 2017
I think most people hate expressive dancing. If somebody were to watch "this" episode of Room 104 for the first time, they would not watch any other episodes thinking the series was a bunch of garbage. Seriously. Whoever came up with the idea for this episode, fire him or her. Stuff like this is death for a TV series.

Boooooooo
mwfgramp18 September 2017
So dumb I created my IMDb account merely to say 'Booooooo!' & give this episode 1 out of 10. .... oh, it appears as though I can't leave a review unless I type 5 lines of text. It's worth it though. I feel compelled to ramble on for another one and a half lines just so I might be able to be the first person to say that not only was this the lamest episode of room 104, it was quite possibly one of the stupidest stories I've ever seen. The only reason I watched this is cause the first few episodes were so cool. I logged on to see if the writer had a background in French cinema... That's how bad it was. It was French cinema bad.

Not the strongest episode
dylanleroybaugher25 November 2019
If you love interpretive dance, you may find enjoyment in this episode. If you're into dance in general, you may like it. Everyone else, it will drag. It's about someone facing thier younger self and dealing with ageing. They do those through interpretive dance. It's a great concept but it drags on and on. I see the positive review blaming "conservative" or closed mindedness for the negative reviews. The truth is, it's just boring. It will fill a nitch audience but no one outside that group. I enjoy movies as an art, but this one was just too long. They dance and music is very well done But after the first 10mins. It wears off and you are waiting for the real story to start. It doesn't. The whole episode could be summed up in 10-15mins but they drag it to close to an hour.

someone committed a crime when this episode got the green light
hierocode13 November 2018
I'll never get back those 25 minutes. I kept reassuring myself, there's gotta be some kind of twist that will make this all worth it. The only twist was my guts twisting in knots at the rotten timesuck dancing around in my tv. If I had a time machine, I would forego trying to prevent 9/11 or the JFK assassination and instead I would go back 25 minutes ago and play with my dog instead of watching this drawn out fart of an episode.

Love it or Really Hate It
Crystal_Dive1 November 2017
First off you need to have an inkling of interest in interpretive dance, even if it goes as far as Kate Bush only ( same red haired protagonist too. Coincidence or by design ?) . Each routine, each movement, each step conveys a meaning and tells the story. Then you will find this a intriguing watch with great era appropriate, lyrically significant music. If not, it will leave you completely bewildered.

Coupled with the potential non-linearity of this type of film making (commercial-experimental) , it's a attention holding as you wonder through each phase whether is the younger experiencing a premonition of her own devices, or is it a reminiscence of the older.

Terrible
kota-3940013 October 2017
I've watched Gilligan, My Mother the Car, Alf (not really) and Clutch Cargo. I've seen lots of miserable and inane television, but have never seen anything as bad as this. It's forgettable, like a bout of flu, melodic, like a fourth grade orchestra and interesting, like a thesis written in Latin for a reader who does not read Latin. Did I say it was bad?

Beautiful and emotional
NiouiNinon16 April 2020
I was so moved by this episode, even though it has no resonance in my personal life. The dancing is in itself beautiful, the story is subtly and smartly ran through, It's an amazing work of art, my favourite episode so far.

AMAZING!
virtual-9388814 September 2019
I started watching Room 104 by accident and decided to try marathoning it as I have always enjoyed Twilight Zone type series. Episodes 1-5 were all intriguing, vaguely scary...then i got to Ep 6 of Season 1... Mind Blown! You can say it's not scary but then you might not be an aging female person. As one, I found this episode very moving and emotional. Such loss and pain... regret. It was performance art and the interpretive dance sequence was beautifully done. Kudos to the Producers!

Ignore the Morons
keithlodge2124 February 2019
Christ. The great thing about this series is that you never know what to expect, and it's not afraid to experiment. Yet when it tries something interesting like a ballet version of a story, you get reviews like the ones on here 'WHA? Peeple dancing an' that? Are ya sayin' I'm gay or Summit?'. For god sake people, get some self respect and stop wearig your ignorance as a bade of honour.

For all those who are not close minded idiots, this is a beautiful episode which really expresses the sadness of losing your youth. Watch it and enjoy, if you're not stupid.

Apparently they want to watch something non-mainstream...
seymour_sp15 June 2019
...but when an episode is "different" in a way not to their liking their minds clamp tight shut and they show they're just conservatives after all, glibly throwing one-star reviews around. Maybe something like Transformers would be more up their street.

I'm no dance aficianado myself so I feel I lack the critical faculties to judge it in that context, but I found this a fascinating detour and an interesting interpretation of the story that played out.

Yes, Voyeurs was difficult...
dougwynn2 October 2019
If you were young and aware in the Eighties, you would have appreciated this episode. All of the performance art, Morrissey, Siouxsie, New Order came tumbling back to me watching this piece...

Wtf with the hate?
AWall886 August 2021
This is one of the strongest episodes in S1. Daring (if only on the creators' end,) sad, sensual, fun, emotional. If you didn't understand it, I doubt you truly understand any episode of this show. It may not be a 10 star episode, but we need to at least get this average up above 5.

Underrated and one the best thing ever made for the Tv
s-natale3 October 2020
These low votes? Seriously? Are you out of your mind? This episode is pure art and had such a unique depth, i get chills just thinking about it. It's depressing how sometimes there's little to no sensibility tu art, symbolism and surrealism. Stop listening to the poorly argued critics. It's one of the most beautiful and exciting television experiences you can have just below part 8 of Twin Peaks 3. It's crazy, engaging, emotional and wonderful. I get that you might not like it, but please have the intellectual honesty to acknowledge that your personal taste is different from the objective quality of an opera.

I expected some schlock, based on the low ratings here, but I was in for a big surprise...
dimitrov_slash11 July 2023
I guess this just goes to show that the vast majority of tv viewers are getting more and more clueless as times goes by. "Voyeurs" was a beautiful, enchanting piece of tv. It's amazing that a magical moment like that can even make it to the screen nowadays. And naturally, when it does, it will likely never get the appreciation it deserves. I enjoyed the first episodes of "Room 104" but this one takes it to a whole new level. I see some of the reviewers complaining about the long scenes of boring meaningless dancing which nobody likes. I genuinely dislike dancing and don't care much for anything related to it, when it's just dancing for the sake of dancing. The dancing scenes here are not meaningless, they are used as a tool for the story to be told. And the story itself is fantastic.

Bravo
safenoe4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Dendrie Taylor plays the Housekeeper and Sarah Hay plays her younger counterpart in this bold and stylistic episode of Room 104. The episode is pretty much wholly in the form of dance to tell a story about reflections of one's earlier life in a fateful hotel room. Now, let's make this clear, if you're someone who enjoys gorging on fast and furious, human centipede, hostel, or Saw, then I'm sorry, you're not really going to appreciate the finer point and nuances of Voyeurs. But if you have an open mind and are willing to expand your viewing tastes and boundaries, then I highly recommend Voyeurs.
