A light hearted God's not dead parody
jamesarooney11 July 2019
I don't normally review episodes but here goes barts not dead is a kind to the original movie Gods not dead a few laughs i really enjoyed it it really shows how religion can show what to believe what is truth and what is false. i give this a 7/10 after 30 years the Simpsons is still going strong with humor even though it might not be perfect as in 1992 onwards to about 2004

Simple

Warning: Spoilers
A simple episode, it elicits a laugh but the ending is predictable and has already been used: Bart lies and is pressured to tell the truth.

I dare you

Daring to continue on to it's 30th season. This episode focuses on the peer pressures of being dared to do something by fellow classmates and the karma of telling one too many lies. Still relatively very, this is the first simpsons episode I have watched in a while and although lacking the emotional depth in the writing as original classic early seasons, this one still holds some solid stance on why the simpsons is still a popular favourite of many to this day.

The Unestereotypical Place that is The Simpsons sometimes.
venicebitch1 October 2018
I've always liked the episode format of The Simpsons in which it starts with a fact almost totally unrelated to the course of the story, almost, since something is usually left (however small) that connects every episode, it brings me credibility and naturalness. In this case it was the attention that Bart gave the presentation of his sister when rejecting a dare, always love to see breaks of the stereotypes of the characters, and at that moment it was used in the correct way. It struck me as an episode of The Good Place, the joke with the ideas of the beyond and divinities was right, even the ethical ideas so common in the series show up here. The Simpsons has been stoned to the times when it comes to playing controversial subjects. Highlight for the critical of the Christian movies that gave name to the episode. Highlight for the critical of the Hollywood scene. With the 30 years of the series i remembered once more that in the majority of the episodes the characters do not grow old, probably its producers have felt this strongly in that premiere of the s30 and put scenes of the future. This evolution of Bart repeats itself, at the conclusion of the episode in his dialogue with Lisa (another connection to the beginning of the episode). conspiracy theory: the whole episode was created by homer and strongly influenced by ned. Its not one of the greatests, but do what Simpsons are good at, good comedy and criticism. And the quality of it all!

Not original, but promising start to season 30
harmisjack1 October 2018
After season 29 had a bizarre amazing finale, I couldn't wait for the first time in forever to see where the new season would pick up. After attempting to behave better since coming out of a coma, Bart's simple lie about meeting Jesus in his dream, escalated even farther when religious producers want to me a movie about Bart's experience. The plot is cliche, and can be predictable, but the jokes are well timed, and the payoff had me laughing. Hopefully season 30 keeps this consistency with comedy, but picks up a bit more in the writing department, especially how well and clever written the predecessor episode was!

Enough! I'm done with it for good this time.

From 1989 through the early 2000s I would never leave the house on a Sunday evening without setting the VCR to record the brilliant, scathingly funny "The Simpsons."

Then, after more than a decade of devoted watching, things started to sag. My interest began to wane, but the quality of the scripts took a dive off of Springfield's highest tower (or nuclear power plant).

For the last few years, I only tuned in if I was at home and there was nothing else going on. And still the scripts got increasingly worse, the humor bland - if there was any - and a distinct drop in the enthusiasm of the actors.

I got through the first five episodes of Season 29 and quit. I had given a rating of 1 star to each of those episodes and vowed to never watch again,

But now, after headlines trumpeting a wonderful return for Season 30, I watched. I was appalled. Not one single second of humor, not even a smile, and still the same attempts at reviving jokes that worked in 1989. Absolutely pitiful. I gave my score of 1 and now, I swear, shall not return to Springfield.

Totally impressed!
amandagabr1elle1 October 2018
Recent episodes have been notorious for being subpar to the classic episodes, but holy cow, man! This episode blew me away! The characters weren't 'flanderized' at all. Homer was as competent as he should be instead of being a complete buffoon. Bart was compassionate to his sister and owned up to his actions. Everything about this episode was just so good! Keep it up, season 30!

Another painfully boring episode
nathanjhunt18 April 2020
This was so dull. Another episode just waiting for it to end. It's embarrassing for anyone to know I watched this episode, makes me feel dirty. Hard pass.

Obvious but amusing
jwwalrath-227-854871 October 2018
This is a predictable Bart-misbehaves-but-learns-a-lesson-story. However, it is pretty funny.

Bart's Not Dead
studioAT27 April 2024
So begins the thirtieth series of the show. Yes, you read that right - the thirtieth.

There's a nice little celebration montage at the start of the episode to celebrate this, and to be honest, it's the best bit of the episode.

I don't like it when the show goes a bit too dark for its own good, and when it starts having a dig at faith/God etc.

I know that's personal preference, but I didn't like the tone of the episode or the situations it put the characters into.

It's got some nice moments along the way, but I just think everyone has their own favourite sort of 'Simpsons' episode, and this wasn't mine.

Great Episode
aapikyan-6039224 October 2018
A great take on Bart's inner kindness and Homer in the end acknowledging that you can't blame kids for being kids. The jokes we're well sophisticatedly thought and executed, though I could do without Marge's father appearing, and the guest stars performed greatly in this take. A definite recommend for simpsons fans!

Show's not dead
paultapner9 February 2019
Every so often, just when you think the Simpsons has run it's life well and truly, it manages an episode like this. A really really good one. It benefits enormously from a single main plotline with no b plots to fill out the time. It has two excellent guest appearances who get some very good lines. And every single joke in this one hits the mark and makes you laugh. Even though it's Bart learning a lesson he's learned many times before, it's still very funny anyhow. It's one of the best season openers ever. And it gives you hope for the consistency of the future of the show.
