OK. So in this episode we got Rainbow Dash's parents. They're cheerful, loud, and supportive too. But too supportive could bother your life, so i could understand why Rainbow dash got mad at her parents.

What i learned at this episode is : no matter what, our parents are always there for us, to cheer us,to support us,to motivate us, even when we don't achieve something. Great episode! in my opinion, season 7 starts good.

My rate on this episode : 89/100

Meet the parents

While Rainbow Dash is a great character when written well and her relationship is Scootaloo likewise, it took until now for 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' to introduce the viewer to the rest of her family. Very different to other Mane 6 characters, with Applejack's family being frequent recurring characters. Was worried about it being Wonderbolt Academy-set, with those episodes' track record of the supporting characters being so unlikeable (Season 6's "Newbie Dash" anyone?).

Despite the hate it's gotten from some fans, "Parental Glideance" to me actually was a very good episode and better than the previous two. Can understand why though some would find the parents annoying (personally didn't think so, though their behaviour was certainly over the top) and even more so the issues people had with Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash's anger reactions or their opinions on whether they were justified (agree mostly with this). So if people didn't like "Parental Glideance", that is not going to be held against them. It did though work for me, because it was great to have insight into Rainbow Dash's family and it was a scenario that actually resonated.

"Parental Glideance" is not quite great. Bow and Windy's over-eager behaviour is admittedly overdone, something that even the writers and most of the other characters acknowledge, and even those who have also experienced this in real life will cringe in their seats. So there was sympathy felt for Rainbow Dash here, being somebody that gets embarrassed at times when past videos of me in concert are shown.

The biggest issue is how Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash's anger is written, some have argued that one was not justified and the other was. To me, neither were justifiable though one was more understandable. Scootaloo's comes completely out of nowhere and to me it wasn't really for any reason seeing she was oblivious to the behaviour and the only one to be so. Rainbow Dash's was a little more understandable if one is in her position, but it had no tact whatsoever and in real life nobody could condone her saying something that is incredibly hurtful and for some unforgivable.

However, "Parental Glideance" has many excellent qualities. It is very nicely animated, with vibrant colours, meticulous attention to detail and character designs that are a lot more nuanced and not near as over-sweet as one fears. The facial expressions are done very well. The music has character and atmosphere, adding a lot to the mood and not being at odds with it. The voice acting from particularly Ashleigh Ball is excellent.

Furthermore, the writing is funny and often touching and mature. The story is exuberantly paced and immensely engaging, the embarrassment was fun to watch somewhat and did like how the problem was resolved with Rainbow Dash learning from her mistakes and wanting to make amends. While the characterisation is not perfect, most of it is extremely good and a great job is done with the character interaction. Rainbow Dash up to that part was easy to relate to as was Scootaloo who also had some illuminating development. Bow and Windy are mostly entertaining and just loved how supportive they are, it was great to see insight into Rainbow Dash's family and it was great to see the Wonderbolt characters not being jerks for the first time since forever.

In conclusion, very well done. 8/10.

Warning: Spoilers
Loved the episode. Great storyline, great backstory, funny as usual, and love the personality of Rainbow Dash's parents. Though I think it's a little unfair that people are quick to hate Rainbow for snapping at her parents.

I get that they want to be supportive of her but they were being a little too much. For the amount of support a person can receive depends on their personality, how much they want to stick out, what they're being supported in, how the person is shown that support, and if that much support bothers them. All the things that Rainbow's parents shown their support in wasn't necessary and very extreme, which is why Rainbow didn't like it. Especially when they didn't realise how much it bothered her nor how it affect how she was doing her job with all the excessive yelling and things they did.

Rainbow Dash is someone who thinks highly of themselves and loves to receive complements, but there's a different between complements and being too much with support. I'm not saying that she had any right to snap at her parents. She was in the wrong for that and did need to apologize for it. But I don't see any reason for her to apologize for what she'd said. It bothered her with all that support and the fact that Scootalo scold her for it was unfair. Everyone is different and takes support in different ways. I like having the support of my parents but if they were anything like Rainbow's parents I would snap too.

That's why I rate it a 9/10. I love everything about the show and the lesson in it, I just find it unfair on how Rainbow was viewed for not wanting that much support since it bothered her a lot. Tone down on the support please.

I mean come on. Who needs support to flip a towel up?

We finally got it

Warning: Spoilers
After years of speculating on what Rainbow Dash's parents look like, we finally got what we wanted! There were a countless number of theories on what they were like, seeing as how she had fewer members of her family introduced than any other of the main characters. It was easy to guess Scootaloo wasn't her sister. It's great to see her star in this episode and I even love how we're introduced. Scootaloo goes to Cloudsdale and meets up with Rainbow Dash's parents and we see some memorabilia of her growing up. Their voices are great too.

Turns out she never bothered telling her parents that she had in fact become a Wonder Bolt. We then find out why. Her parents have always been embarrassing her about how great she is and they even have caps of her they wear. Now, parents embarrassing their kid is nothing new in pop culture. What makes this great is how they resolve it. Rainbow Dash feels bad for being mad at her parents so she puts on an elaborate show to make up for it. They end up being embarrassed by her! The same thing might have happened to them and Scootaloo at the end. ****
